Nigeria Football Icon Ibrahim Galadima Dies At 78

A former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Ibrahim Galadima, has died after a prolonged illness.
His death, which occurred on Saturday, was confirmed by former NFA Secretary-General, Sani Ahmed Toro.

Galadima was widely regarded as a towering figure in Nigerian sports administration, having led the NFA during a pivotal period before its restructuring into the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Born in 1951 in Fagge, Kano State, Galadima built a distinguished career spanning decades in sports governance. He served as Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983, where he played a crucial role in grassroots sports development.

He later rose to national prominence as a member of the National Sports Commission and was elected Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee in 1985, serving until 1987.

Galadima’s influence extended beyond administrative leadership. He was reappointed Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council and remained actively involved in shaping sports policies at both state and national levels.

He also served on the Presidential Monitoring Committee for the development of sports facilities for the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship, initially awarded to Nigeria but later relocated.

In addition, he contributed to continental football development as a member of the Organising Committee for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Youth Championship.

In 2002, he was elected Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, further cementing his status as one of Nigeria’s most influential football administrators.
