NDC Uploads Peter Obi’s Name to INEC Portal as Party Moves to Secure 2027 Presidential Bid
“As Nigeria’s 2027 political race gathers momentum, the NDC says Peter Obi’s presidential journey has officially moved to another stage with his name now submitted to INEC.”
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed the upload of Peter Obi’s name as its presidential candidate on the INEC nomination portal. The party said the move followed access granted by INEC, despite an ongoing court challenge involving an appeal and stay of execution application.”
The political landscape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections has taken a fresh turn as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) confirms the upload of Peter Obi’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, signalling the party’s determination to proceed with its presidential campaign despite ongoing legal challenges.

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the party has successfully uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday, where the party disclosed that it had taken legal steps to challenge a recent court ruling through an appeal and an application for a stay of execution.
The NDC said the legal documents had been served on the INEC Chairman and the commission, adding that the party had also been granted access to the electoral body’s portal to complete the submission of its candidates in line with the approved electoral timetable.
According to the statement, “My name and that of the presidential candidate have been uploaded to the INEC portal, while that of the vice-presidential candidate will be done tomorrow upon completion of the deposition. The process is also ongoing for other candidates.”
The party further maintained that it remains a duly registered political party and has participated in all electoral processes leading to the 2027 elections.
It stated that its primary elections were conducted under the observation and monitoring of INEC, adding that the emergence of candidates across different elective positions had already been completed.
The party explained that the remaining step was the administrative submission of candidates’ details to the electoral commission.
The NDC noted that, according to INEC’s election timetable, the party has until July 11 to upload the names of National Assembly candidates, while the deadline for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is July 17.
The party’s National Leader urged members and supporters to remain calm, expressing confidence that there is enough time to complete the submission process for all candidates.
The statement also acknowledged disagreements that occurred during the party’s primary elections but revealed that reconciliation efforts had begun to unite aspirants, party members and stakeholders nationwide.
The NDC assured unsuccessful aspirants that they would remain valuable members of the party and would be integrated into campaign structures, committees and other political activities.
Describing them as the “grassroots strength” of the movement, the party called for unity ahead of the coming electoral contest.
The National Leader congratulated all candidates, members and supporters while urging Nigerians to protect the country’s multi-party democracy.
The party also commended INEC for what it described as professionalism in handling its registration and electoral processes, while calling on the judiciary and security agencies to remain neutral in protecting democratic institutions.
With the appeal and related applications now before the courts, the NDC expressed confidence that the judiciary would determine the matter based on the provisions of the law.
