Katsina Woman Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Sleeping Husband as Police Foil Bandits’ Raid

Katsina Police Arrest Housewife Over Alleged Attempted Murder, Foil Bandits’ Attack
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, identified as Sadiya Lawal, over an alleged attempted murder incident involving her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim, in Katsina metropolis.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly attacked her husband with a knife while he was asleep, leaving him with a deep cut injury around his neck.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Monday.

Sadiq said Ibrahim reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division, Katsina, at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026.

He explained that the victim alleged that the attack occurred earlier that morning at about 5:30 a.m. while he was sleeping.

“While he was asleep, his wife, Sadiya Lawal, 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat, leaving him with a deep cut injury to the neck,” the police spokesperson stated.

Following the report, police officers reportedly visited the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the knife allegedly used in the incident.

The injured husband was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment.

The police command said the suspect remains in custody and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

Foil Bandits’ Attack in Dandume

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command also announced that its operatives foiled a suspected bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Government Area.

The command said the incident occurred on June 28, 2026, after a distress call was received at the Dandume Police Division about the movement of armed bandits riding motorcycles along the Kadisau-Sheme Road.

DSP Sadiq said the Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area.
The security team reportedly engaged the suspects in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat and flee.

During the operation, the fleeing bandits allegedly abandoned two motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered as exhibits.
The police said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Police Commissioner Reacts

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting residents across the state.

He also urged residents to avoid domestic violence and encouraged families to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful channels.
