Grief and Grace: Abia Paramount ruler, H/Chief P.C. Elechi Breaks Down as He Buries Beloved Wife at 71
“Grief poured freely as tears, tributes, and touching memories filled the air in Abia State, where High Chief P.C. Elechi laid his beloved wife, Uzoamaka, to rest. But beyond the sorrow, it was his deeply emotional tribute—revealing love, loss, and an unbreakable family bond—that left many moved and reflecting on life, death, and legacy.”
” Who is High Chief P.C. Elechi?
High Chief P.C. Elechi is a traditional leder in Abia State, known as the Ude Mba I and Omemma I of Ngwa Land. He recently made headlines following the emotional burial of his wife, Mrs. Uzoamaka Elechi, where he shared a heartfelt tribute highlighting their love, family unity, and personal loss.”
It was a deeply emotional moment marked by grief, pain, and heartfelt tributes as the family of High (Chief) Promise Chidiebere Elechi, the paramount ruler of Asaowo Autonomous Community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, and the Ude Mba I of Ngwa Land and Omemma I of Ngwa Land,
laid to rest his second wife, late Mrs. Uzoamaka (Uzoma) Elechi.
The late matriarch, who passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness, was mourned by family members, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to pay their final respects, last Friday, at the country home of her husband.
The atmosphere was filled with sorrow, as tears and wailing echoed among sympathisers who came from far and near to honour her memory.

In a rare contrast to the often complex dynamics associated with polygamous homes in Nigeria, High Chief Elechi—who was married to four wives—was widely described by community members as a symbol of love, peace, and unity. Observers noted that harmony prevailed among his wives and children, a bond that remained evident throughout the funeral proceedings.
Speaking in an interview with Famousreporters.com, the grieving monarch described the loss of his wife as one of the most painful and shocking experiences of his life. He recalled their decades-long relationship, characterised by mutual love, respect, and understanding.

Chief Elechi also recounted the earlier tragedy of losing his first daughter and the only child of the deceased, Miss Amarachi Elechi, who passed away in 2023. According to him, the devastating loss left Miss Amarachi, deeply traumatised, his wife, (now late) as she struggled to cope with the pain of losing her only child.
He added that the unity he fostered within his family transcended beyond marital lines, such that it was difficult to distinguish between children from different mothers, as they all lived as one cohesive family.
The Ude Mba I of Ngwa Land and Omemma I of Ngwa Land expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his second wife, who died on February 11, 2026, following an illness that defied all medical interventions.
Continuing amidst heartache, the bereaved husband described his late wife as a woman of exceptional kindness and generosity.

“She was a very good and wonderful woman. She was kind to everyone and a mother to many. She trained several children, sponsored their education, and supported many people who lived with her. It is difficult for anyone to speak ill of her,” he said.
Reflecting on family unity, he urged his wives and children to remain together in harmony despite the painful loss.
Elechi prided in the outstanding love and unity evident in his family.
“I have always advised them to live in unity. Even in this difficult time, peace must prevail in the family as ever. There’s no discrimination among my wives and our children rather we live like one big family.”
In a heartwrenching tribute to to his beloved wife, he wrote:
“The devastating news of the death of my beloved wife, Mrs. Uzoamaka Promise Elechi, came to me as a great shock. Her sudden departure has created an unimaginable vacuum in my life and in our entire family.
Nkem, while you were alive, you fought for others and cared deeply about everyone who came your way.

” No one imagined you would leave us so soon. You were my best friend, my confidant, and my other half. You meant the world to me, and we loved each other despite all odds.
I cannot fully express the pain I feel, especially as you departed this world on February 11, 2026 — the same month we lost your only daughter, Miss Amarachi Vivian Elechi.
” Though my heart aches, I find comfort in knowing that you are at peace with your Maker, whom you faithfully served from childhood.
I promise to continue from where you stopped — to care for our children and to live a life devoted to God, so that we may meet again on the resurrection morning.
Adieu, my love.
Good night, Aunty Uzo.
Your beloved husband,
High Chief P. C. Elechi (GDJ)”.

Conclusion
Earlier, while delivering the funeral homily, Rev. Dr. John U. Eze reflected on the inevitability of death, posing the question of why God allows the death of His beloved. He explained that death is not beyond God’s control but is an inevitable appointment that every human must keep.
Quoting scripture, he noted that “it is appointed unto men once to die,” emphasising that no one knows when their time will come. He described death as both an appointment and an assignment that every individual must fulfil.
Rev. Eze further portrayed death as a messenger that visits every family, stressing that while it may be resisted, it cannot be avoided when its time arrives.
He, however, offered a message of hope, stating that God rejoices over the death of a righteous believer because such a soul finds rest in paradise. He urged the congregation to live lives of holiness and righteousness so as to attain eternal rest in the kingdom of God.
Meanwhile, the passing of Late Elder Mrs. Uzoamaka Promise Elechi has left a profound void in her family and community. Remembered for her generosity, compassion, and unwavering support for others, she lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
