As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 Abia Central senatorial contest, the record of former House of Representatives member Emeka Atuma is again attracting attention, particularly his 2003–2007 legislative tenure, reported constituency projects and current bid for the Senate.
Emeka Atuma represented Ikwuano/Umuahia in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and is seeking the Abia Central Senate seat in 2027.
Nineteen years after his impactful service in the Green Chamber (2003–2007), the record of Hon. Emeka Atuma, fondly called Kabila, continues to speak for him. For the wise and discerning people of Abia Central, the 2027 Senate contest should not be about trial and error, sentiment or experiment — it should be about proven experience, tested capacity and unshakable loyalty.
A LEGISLATOR WITH UNMATCHED LAWMAKING CREDENTIALS
Hon. Atuma is not a greenhorn in the act of lawmaking. He is a master lawmaker. As a former member who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency and served as Chairman, House Committee on Environment and Ecological Matters, he delivered what many could not achieve in three terms combined.
His greatest legislative legacy remains historic and national: the sponsorship of the Acts that established two major federal agencies today — the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
Hon. Atuma had the legislative sagacity to harmonise, defend and secure presidential assent for both bills on behalf of Nigeria — a golden record unmatched by any legislator from Abia Central till date.
PROJECTS THAT STILL SPEAK FOR HIM
His four-year scorecard remains verifiable, visible and enduring. Seventy-two water projects that ended years of scarcity, rural electrification that lit up forgotten communities, motorable roads fitted with solar street lights, modern classroom blocks, erosion-control interventions, health-centre renovations and community town halls across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
Nearly two decades later, these amenities still serve the people. That is indeed performance, not propaganda.
A HOME-BRED LEADER WITH DEEP ROOTS AMONG THE PEOPLE
Atuma is a true homeboy, a man of the people and the people’s darling. From Umuafai to Ohokobe Ndume Ibeku, from Osisioma to Isiala Ngwa, his doors are always open.
Because of his humility, accessibility and good relationships with people across political parties, everyone wants to identify with him. In other words, Hon. Emeka Atuma’s PR and humility are unassailable.
More than that, he identifies with his people at various events, including August Meetings, weddings, burials, youth gatherings, church programmes and sacred traditional occasions like Iri Ji (New Yam Festival). And where he is unavoidably absent, he sends a familiar, trusted delegation to represent him in a manner that reflects his presence, generosity and respect for the people.
That is why massive, organic and joyful crowds receive him everywhere and why the highly revered Ohuhu Clan Traditional Rulers recently endorsed his political ambition and honoured him with the prestigious chieftaincy title, Ihie-Ukwu Ohuhu.
UNBROKEN CONSISTENCY, LOYALTY AND RESILIENCE
Since leaving office in 2007, he has never abandoned his people. He stayed with the APC when the party had no roots in Abia, nurtured the formidable Grace Movement and continued to serve without holding public office.
While others disappeared, only to return during elections, Kabila remained — building structures, keeping faith, empowering households and investing in the next generation.
A CHAMPION OF HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
He pioneered one of the first major empowerment programmes by a public office holder in Abia State. In 2003, when the motorcycle business could sustain and build a family, he gave out one hundred motorcycles completely free, alongside sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, startup capital, vehicles and scholarships.
That was empowerment with meaning.
Today, his vision has evolved with the times. He has firmly promised that his priority in the Senate will be facilitating federal and international jobs, digital skills and sustainable employment for our youths, because Keke and bus empowerment can no longer sustain families.
With good jobs, our youths can marry, build homes, raise families and live with dignity. That is progressive leadership.
EXPOSURE, ENTERPRISE AND GLOBAL CONNECTIONS
Aside from politics, Hon. Atuma is a successful businessman and job creator who understands wealth creation, not just wealth sharing.
He has managed people, resources and enterprises with discipline, integrity and prudence. As a national figure with legislative sagacity, business exposure and strong ties to development partners, he knows how to connect Abia Central to federal opportunities, national visibility and international collaborations.
SERVICE AS A LIFESTYLE, NOT A SLOGAN
His lifestyle is service in its purest form. Long before seeking office again, he attracted critical infrastructure that transformed rural communities — including the 1.6km Ntalakwu-Umuigu Road, Ndoro-Ntalakwu Road, Umuigwu-Ugbuebila Ring Road, Nnono-Olori Court Ring Road and many more community access roads fitted with solar street lights, alongside erosion-control projects and other federal interventions.
Beyond infrastructure, he has awarded scholarships to indigent students, supported widows, equipped churches, empowered women leaders and quietly paid hospital bills. That is servant leadership that touches lives.
A MAN OF FAITH, FAMILY VALUES AND DISCIPLINE
A man who recognises God in all his ways, his Castle of Grace stands as a testimony to his faith, gratitude and dedication to God.
His politics is anchored on grace, humility and the fear of God. He is a stable family man with a godly, united and exemplary home — the true foundation for stable leadership.
Stakeholders across party lines describe him as disciplined, credible, trusted, humble and approachable — a man whose word is his bond.
THE BRIDGE TO THE NATIONAL POLITICAL GRID
He is a founding loyalist of the APC, the ruling party at the centre. Recognised for his cordial relationships with the national ruling party caucuses and respected across political divides, he is a bridge-builder, a unifier, loved by friends and opponents alike.
His determination to connect Abia Central to the National Political Grid, to attract federal presence, appointments, projects and inclusion, guarantees that our zone will no longer be left in opposition or abandoned.
Equity, justice and brotherhood also favour Ikwuano/Umuahia completing their eight years in the Senate.
A LEADER WHO LISTENS, CARES AND REMEMBERS
No August Meeting in the six LGAs passes without feeling Kabila’s generous support. He attends, he supports, he identifies and he celebrates with his people.
Everyone who meets him testifies: he listens attentively, he cares genuinely and he acts promptly. He remembers names, families, villages and communities because his people are not statistics to him — they are his strength.
THE VERDICT OF THE PEOPLE: ENDORSEMENTS KEEP COMING
This is why Abia Central is adopting him with one united voice.
The Kabila Movement, the Isiala Ngwa South Adoption led by Hon. Chief I.K. Anyatonwu at Umuosi Okporoahaba, the Isiala Ngwa North Equity Movement led by former Speaker Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, who withdrew from the Senate race for Atuma, Osisioma Stakeholders, the massive Umuahia North crowd at Ohokobe, Ikwuano Stakeholders, nine Clans Youth Presidents, Abia Central Students Association (ACSA), Motorcycle Riders Associations of Umuojima Osisioma and Ndoro Junction Ikwuano, revered chieftaincy holders, Atuma Friends International, Atuma Grace Movement and the Kwechiri Movement.
Truly, Atuma is the right choice, the credible choice, the people’s choice for Abia Central. He is the bridge to the centre, the right man for the job, the tested hand and the way forward for Abia Central Senatorial District in 2027.
In Hon. Emeka Atuma (Kabila), we have found Experience, Capacity, Competence, Character and Loyalty. He is not coming to learn; he is prepared from Day One to deliver quality representation, effective legislation and people-oriented leadership.
This is his time. Abia Central, let us choose wisely. Let us choose Kabila.
