Frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mascot Uzor Kalu, has said he possesses the experience, capacity, and grassroots connection required to emerge victorious in the party’s primaries and lead effectively if elected in 2027.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, yesterday, at the party secretariat in Umuahia, the State capital, shortly after the official presentation of aspirants contesting various elective positions across the state, under the platform of APC.
Kalu acknowledged the contributions and strengths of other aspirants within the APC. However, he maintained that his experience within the political system gives him a unique advantage.
“We respect and acknowledge every candidate in the race, including those who may not currently hold public office,” he said.
“However, I believe I remain the most experienced and capable candidate because I have worked extensively within the system. I understand the processes involved, and I possess the knowledge, experience, and skills required to effectively deliver on the responsibilities of the office.”
On his chances of clinching the APC governorship ticket, the aspirant expressed strong optimism, stressing that his campaign structure and grassroots engagement have continued to grow across the state.
“Yes, I am very confident,” Kalu stated.
“I believe our level of preparation, grassroots support, and engagement with party members place us in a strong position ahead of the primaries.”
Commenting on the current political climate and its possible impact on the 2027 elections, Kalu noted that economic realities and public expectations would significantly shape voter decisions.
According to him, Nigerians are increasingly demanding leaders who understand governance, economic management, and service delivery.
“This year’s political landscape is largely influenced by economic realities and the expectations of the people,” he explained.
“Nigerians want leadership that understands governance, economic management, and service delivery. Our campaign is focused on presenting practical solutions and building confidence among party members and the electorate.”
Kalu also reiterated his support for the APC’s direct primary system, describing it as a credible process capable of deepening internal democracy within the party.
“I have confidence in the direct primary system because it gives party members the opportunity to freely choose their preferred candidate,” he added.
“I believe the process will strengthen internal democracy, encourage wider participation, and produce candidates who truly have the support of the people at the grassroots level.”
