Sen. Joel-Onowakpo Hailed as GOMEP-NG Backs FMC Oleh Bill for Delta South Development
A Long-Awaited Breakthrough? GOMEP-NG Says Sen. Joel-Onowakpo’s FMC Oleh Bill Could Transform Healthcare and Development in Delta South
For many residents of Delta South, access to quality healthcare has remained a major challenge for decades. That could soon change. The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has thrown its weight behind Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas’ bill seeking to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh, describing the move as a landmark legislative intervention capable of transforming healthcare, creating jobs and accelerating development across the region.
The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for sponsoring a bill to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh, Delta State. The Guild says the proposed hospital will improve healthcare services, create employment, expand the Federal Government’s presence and drive socio-economic development across Delta South.
The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, for sponsoring what it described as people-centred legislation aimed at expanding the Federal Government’s presence and improving access to quality healthcare in Delta State.
In a statement jointly signed by the National President of GOMEP-NG, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, and the National Secretary, Comrade Clinton Uba, the Guild described Senator Joel-Onowakpo as “one of the most hardworking, visionary and development-driven lawmakers in the National Assembly,” noting that his legislative initiatives continue to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits to the people of Delta South.
GOMEP-NG particularly applauded the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content for sponsoring the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh. It described the proposed institution as a landmark intervention that would significantly improve healthcare delivery, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across the senatorial district.
According to the Guild, the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleh would further strengthen the Federal Government’s presence in Delta South, a region it said has historically experienced limited federal institutions despite its strategic importance.
The statement noted that, for decades, the area had only a handful of federal establishments, including Police formations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It added that the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, marked a major milestone in addressing the imbalance, while the proposed FMC in Oleh represents another strategic step towards inclusive development.
“GOMEP-NG is proud to witness these remarkable legislative accomplishments. The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleh will not only strengthen healthcare services but will also boost economic activities, create employment opportunities and improve the welfare of residents across Delta South and neighbouring communities,” the statement read.
The Guild further urged elected representatives and other political office holders from Delta State to emulate Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas by sponsoring impactful legislation and facilitating projects capable of improving the lives of their constituents.
While congratulating the Senator on what it described as another significant legislative achievement, GOMEP-NG reaffirmed its commitment to recognising public office holders whose leadership, performance and legislative initiatives contribute meaningfully to national development and the advancement of their constituencies.
The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, National President, and Comrade Clinton Uba, National Secretary, of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG).
