Shootouts in Abuja
The FCT Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough following the arrest of thirteen suspected members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate terrorising parts of Abuja.
According to police authorities, the arrests were made between January 10 and January 12, 2026, during coordinated intelligence-driven operations carried out by the Command’s Scorpion Squad led by ACP Victor O. Godfrey.
How the Operation Unfolded
Police operatives launched targeted raids in Apo-Waru and Durumi after receiving multiple complaints from robbery victims in Asokoro, Mabuchi, and Utako. Acting on credible intelligence, officers traced the suspects to a hideout in Durumi, where the gang reportedly opened fire on the police team.
Security operatives responded swiftly, overpowering the suspects and arresting eight gang members during the initial operation.
Further follow-up investigations led officers to another hideout in Apo-Waru. Another gun duel reportedly occurred, leading to the arrest of five additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to thirteen.
CCTV Footage Exposed Syndicate Activities
Police investigations revealed that CCTV footage obtained from one of the gang’s previous robbery operations played a crucial role in identifying and tracking the suspects. Authorities say the syndicate is linked to several violent robberies across Gwagwalada, Apo, Waru, Jahi, Wuse, and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Major Robbery Attacks Linked to the Suspects
The gang has been connected to several high-profile robbery attacks, including:
A robbery at Dan-Shade Hotel in Gwagwalada where victims lost cash, foreign currency, and mobile phones, while a vigilante operative was disarmed.
Police Reassure Residents
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries. The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through emergency lines provided by the police.
