According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, March 22, 2026, a tragic incident has been reported in Ohatekwe Ukawu community in Ebonyi State, where a young man identified as Oforbuike Damian allegedly killed his mother, Onyema Damian.

The shocking development has left residents in deep mourning, as details of the incident continue to circulate across the community.

Sources within the area disclosed that the incident occurred over the weekend, prompting swift reactions from local leaders and youth groups who mobilized immediately after the act was discovered.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, leading to her death. He reportedly fled into a nearby forest in an attempt to evade arrest.
The incident triggered widespread tension, with over 200 youths said to have participated in a coordinated search operation through the surrounding forest.

After an extensive search, the suspect was eventually located and brought back to the community, where residents gathered in large numbers amid heightened emotions.

During the process, he was warned “never to return” to the community.

In a statement that has further shocked residents, the suspect reportedly confessed, saying, “I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned haircut and is looking for money to open a barbing salon.”

The incident has continued to generate outrage and concern, highlighting deeper issues surrounding family conflict and mental health within communities.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
