Plateau Deputy Chairman Confirms 30 Killed, 10 Abducted in Kwara Terror Attack

The Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State, Gwong Song, has confirmed that more than 30 indigenes of the council were killed in a terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The deadly attack, which occurred on February 3, 2026, also left over 700 people displaced, according to the deputy chairman.
Song disclosed during a media briefing on Tuesday that most of the victims were natives of Ganawuri community who had travelled to Kwara State for farming and commercial activities before the invasion.

Over 700 Displaced, 10 Still in Captivity
He revealed that the number of displaced persons has risen to 707, although about 200 have returned home after the council chairman released N3 million to transport them back.

Those who returned are currently staying with relatives, as they are not in formal IDP camps.
Four injured victims are still receiving treatment in Kwara State, while at least 10 others remain in captivity.

Community Plans Memorial for Victims
Describing the tragedy as painful and devastating, Song said the council is organising a special memorial day on Thursday to honour the deceased.

“We have about 30 of them that lost their lives, and as a community, it is very painful for us,” he said.

The attack has left families mourning and many residents stranded, further highlighting growing insecurity affecting communities across states.
