“Political Nomad Again?” Onanuga Blasts Peter Obi Over ADC Exit as 2027 Battle Heats Up
“Nigeria’s political landscape erupted on Sunday. This is after a fiery exchange between presidential aide Bayo Onanuga and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, triggering fresh debate ahead of the 2027 elections. Obi’s sudden exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has not only raised eyebrows but also drawn sharp criticism, with Onanuga branding him a “political nomad” in remarks that are already dominating national discourse.”
“Peter Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sparked controversy, with presidential aide Bayo Onanuga criticising the move as political inconsistency. Obi, however, says his decision followed deep personal reflection and highlights the emotional challenges faced by public figures in Nigeria’s political space.”
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has strongly criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi following his confirmation of withdrawal from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party he recently joined after exiting the Labour Party.
In a social media post on Sunday, Onanuga described Obi’s decision as evidence of a recurring pattern of political inconsistency, suggesting that the former Anambra State governor frequently shifts positions.
“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” Onanuga wrote, dismissing Obi’s stated reasons for leaving the ADC.
He further criticised Obi’s explanation, describing it as “puerile” and “self-serving,” adding, “Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob.”
Onanuga also questioned Obi’s political strategy, alleging that he avoids competitive internal party contests.
“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku Abubakar or Rotimi Amaechi for the ticket,” he said.
“He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023.”
Additionally, Onanuga accused Obi of deflecting responsibility, arguing that he often criticises the government without engaging in introspection.
“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Obi had announced his departure from the ADC in a detailed post shared on X (formerly Twitter).
In his statement, Obi explained that his decision was driven by deep personal reflection, while highlighting the emotional and psychological challenges faced by public figures.
“Fellow Nigerians, good morning. I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart, and despite every constraint, I felt compelled to share these thoughts with you,” Obi wrote.
He further noted that many people may not fully understand “the silent pains some of us carry daily—the private struggles, emotional burdens, and quiet battles we face while trying to survive and serve sincerely in difficult circumstances.
