NSCDC FCT Command Set To Partner Indigenous Community

In a quest to ensure the FCT is rid of crimes and criminal elements, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has expressed willingness to partner with the Indigenous Communities in the FCT.

Dr. Odumosu, expressed this when he granted the audience to the FCT Indigenous Community Security Committee and Welfare who paid him a visit in his office to seek partnership with the Corps in enhancing security of Abuja residents; indigenes and visitors alike.

The FCT Commandant said he was delighted by the group’s concern for adequate security, as well as their quest to ensure peace and safety of the indigenes of the six (6) Area Councils and therefore charged other concerned groups in the FCT to emulate this altruistic actions.

“Your visit is highly commendable because it hinges on promoting safety and ensuring enough security for the indigenes of the FCT”.

He observed that their intentions were genuine, patriotic and worthy of support by the Corps, adding that business and social activities can only thrive in a secured and peaceful environment.

Dr. Odumosu who highlighted the responsibilities of the Corps to include protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, lives and properties of citizens also reminded that the Corps’ mandate to license and regulate the Private Guard Companies, is geared towards ensuring security at the various levels to mitigate any unforseen circumstances or security emergencies.

The FCT helmsman, assured the group of the Corps’ readiness to engage in meaningful partnership and intelligence sharing.

He stressed the importance of confidentiality and timely action in processing intelligence information given to them.

He posited that the Corps will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and groups to address security challenges facing the FCT to ensure a safer environment for all.

“We are committed to doing everything necessary to provide the security that residents and government Infrastructure in the FCT deserves.

“Security is a collective responsibility and we are ready to partner with all the stakeholders to make this happen”, Dr. Odumosu said.

In his remarks, the President of the group Amb. Yamzak Emmanuel, called for stronger collaboration with the NSCDC, stating that there was a need for a more robust partnership to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors to the FCT.

He expressed concern over security challenges in some parts of the FCT, and calls for more engagement of security agencies in fighting the pockets of kidnapping in some areas of the territory.

Anb. Emmanuel, stressed further that for crimes to be effectively combatted, all hands must be on deck to fight our common enemies and there must be prompt response mechanisms from security agencies.

He emphasized that the group would assist by sharing credible intelligence to drive the process.
