Man Falls Into Father’s Grave While Visiting, Dies on the Spot

A man in Linhares, Brazil, reportedly died after the gravestone at his late father’s burial site collapsed while he was visiting the cemetery to attend a friend’s burial.

A visit to his late father’s gravesite ended in tragedy when a man in Brazil fell into the grave after the gravestone beneath him suddenly gave way.

A man in Brazil has died after falling into a grave at his late father’s burial site while visiting a cemetery to attend a friend’s burial.

The yet-to-be-identified man, believed to be about 40 years old, reportedly died on Wednesday afternoon after the gravestone he was sitting on gave way, causing him to fall into the grave below.

According to Metro UK, the incident occurred at Sao Jose Municipal Cemetery in the Interlagos neighbourhood of Linhares, Brazil, at about 2:30 pm.

The man had visited the cemetery to attend the burial of a friend who reportedly died in a road accident a day earlier. Before proceeding to his friend’s burial, he stopped at his father’s gravesite.

Nazare Bravin, a gravedigger at the cemetery, said the man had asked where his friend’s burial would take place after arriving at the premises. He reportedly parked his motorcycle before walking to his father’s burial spot.

However, tragedy struck when the gravestone he sat on suddenly gave way, sending him into the grave. The loud noise attracted the attention of other people at the cemetery, who raised the alarm.

Efforts were made to save him, with cemetery workers contacting the Samu ambulance service and the fire brigade. However, he was pronounced dead before he could be taken to a hospital.

The Linhares Municipal Council confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing sympathy with the deceased’s family and friends.

“We regret the incident that occurred yesterday afternoon at Sao Jose Cemetery in the Interlagos neighbourhood and express our solidarity with the family and friends at this time of grief,” the council said.

The council added that cemetery workers promptly contacted emergency responders, including the ambulance service and the fire brigade, but the man could not be saved.

Although his identity had not been made public in the report, the deceased was said to be the husband of a staff member of the Linhares Municipal Council.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse of the gravestone were not immediately clear.
