Woman set ablaze over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammad

Exactly three years after the gruesome murder of a young Christian, Miss Deborah Samuel by some Muslim religion fanatics, over alleged blasphemy against prophet Mohammad, history has repeated itself.

It will be recalled that, Deborah, a former student of Shehu Shagari College Education, Sokoto, was killed one fateful, scortchy Thursday, in the month of May, 2025, for allegedly “making blasphemous statements about Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Reportedly, Deborah, whose last words before her last breath were, “what do you hope to achieve by doing this?”, had pleaded for mercy from her lunchers and called out for help but was denied, before she died.

Similarly, tragedy struck last Saturday’s evening, August 30, 2025, in Kasuwan-Garba town, Mariga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, as enraged residents of the community lynched and set a woman ablaze over an alleged blasphemous remark against Prophet Muhammad.

The victim, identified as Amaye, a local food vendor, reportedly made the controversial remarks in her restaurant after a customer jokingly expressed interest in marrying her, citing the tradition of the Prophet.

According to some reliable sources, Amaye was initially taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba, who handed her over to security operatives for investigation. However, before the matter could be resolved, a mob overpowered the security officers, lynched her, and set her body ablaze.

Confirming the incident, Abbas Adamu Kasuwan-Garba, Chairman of Mariga LGA, stated that normalcy had since been restored to the town.

NIGER STATE POLICE COMMAND CONFIRMS BRUTAL KILLING OF LADY

In a related development, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, has confirmed a lady, simply known as Ammaye, was burnt to death by a mob over an alleged blasphemous utterance against the Islamic faith before security reinforcement could arrive.

“On 30/8/2025 at about 2pm, report received indicated that one Amaye, a female of Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga LGA, made some comments against the Islamic prophet. Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to ensure that arrests are affected, investigated, and prosecuted.”

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at Kasuwan Garba in the council area, when the lady, a Muslim faithful and well-known food seller, was said to have engaged in an exchange of words with a young man said to be her nephew.

The young man was said to have jokingly told Ammaye that he wanted to marry her to “fulfil the Sunnah”. The lady was said to have made comments considered blasphemous.

Meanwhile, it is not news any longer that there have been incessant cases of mob justice in northern Nigeria meted out against citizens who out of ignorance, make statements considered to be blasphemous and consequently, resulting in extrajudicial killings, with little or no regards for laid down procedures.
