Just In: 4 killed, 2 abducted, others injured, as gunmen strike Anambra community

No fewer than four persons suspected to be students were gruesomely killed in cold blood, as unidentified gunmen attacked Oko community near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident which occurred on Thursday’s evening recorded many casualties who are suspected to be
students of Oko Federal Polytechnic, in Anambra state.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, sources in the area suspect it to be cult-related. The assailants reportedly opened fire without provocation, triggering chaos in the community.

Earlier, the information was shared on X, formerly Twitter, where videos of the aftermath were also uploaded.

The disturbing incident came to light via a post on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by graphic video clips that allegedly show the aftermath of the violence, including bodies of those killed.

Subsequently, eyewitnesses and local residents confirmed that four people were killed instantly and around seven others injured, though the police gave a lower casualty figure of two.

One local source said, “The incident happened late yesterday (Thursday). The armed men arrived near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and started shooting unprovoked. At least seven students of the polytechnic were shot today. Four casualties were recorded while the remaining students are in critical condition at local hospitals.

According to the user who shared the post, the armed assailants stormed the institution, killed multiple individuals, and took two lecturers hostage.

As of the time this report was compiled, neither the school authorities, the Anambra State Government, nor the police have issued any official statements addressing the attack.

The incident has triggered a wave of outrage and sorrow online, with many Nigerians flooding the comments section to express their shock, fear, and calls for urgent government action.
