Gaidam honours IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, commends his excellence, bravity

The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has commended the dedication of awardees at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony, describing them as shining examples for others to follow.

Speaking during the second edition of the award ceremony held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, the Minister said the honourees’ actions embody the highest ideals of policing—protecting lives, upholding justice, and maintaining peace, the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) reports.

Senator Gaidam noted that their commitment not only ensures the safety of citizens but also reinforces the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

“As we honour the most outstanding police officer of the year today,” he said, “let us remember that their achievements reflect the collective spirit of our entire force. They exemplify virtues such as honesty, bravery, and selflessness—qualities that are the bedrock of effective and trusted policing.”

He emphasized that the ceremony is more than an awards event—it is a sacred recognition of the sacrifices, professionalism, and resilience displayed daily by police officers. It celebrates those who go above and beyond, showing exceptional courage, community engagement, integrity, and patriotism.

Senator Gaidam reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a model institution known for excellence and integrity. He stressed that stories of sacrifice and service must continue to inspire others and strengthen the resolve to serve the nation with loyalty and devotion.

He also extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his visionary leadership and continued support for national security initiatives. Additionally, he commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, for his leadership and for organizing the event, noting that it reflects his unwavering commitment to motivating and uplifting police personnel.

In his welcome address, IGP Egbetokun described the award process as a rigorous and transparent effort to institutionalize merit within the Nigeria Police Force. “Officers did not apply for recognition; they earned it through uncommon courage, ethical conduct, and unwavering dedication. To all award recipients—you have become standard bearers of a redefined Nigeria Police Force. Carry the honour with humility and a fierce determination to do more,” the IGP charged.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, highlighted the importance of awards and commendations as vital tools for building strong and resilient institutions by celebrating excellence and motivating personnel.
