Nineteen years after leaving the Green Chamber, Hon. Emeka Atuma’s supporters say his projects, political loyalty and record of constituency service have kept his name alive across Abia Central.
Hon. Emeka Atuma (Kabila), a former member of the House of Representatives, is being presented by his supporters as a tested legislator and strong contender for the Abia Central Senatorial District seat in 2027.
Nineteen years after he left the Green Chamber, projects attributed to Hon. Emeka Atuma are still serving communities across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
While political campaigns are often dominated by promises, supporters of Atuma, popularly known as Kabila, point to his record in the House of Representatives as evidence of what they believe he can deliver at the Senate.
As the 2027 Abia Central Senatorial District contest gathers momentum, his supporters argue that the race should be about experience, tested capacity and a demonstrable record of service—not experimentation.
Here are 16 reasons they believe Abia Central should support Hon. Emeka Atuma (Kabila):
- A Strong Lawmaking Record
Atuma represented the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Environment and Ecological Matters.
During his tenure, he was associated with legislative efforts that led to the establishment of two important federal environmental agencies: the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
His supporters say he also played a role in harmonising, defending and securing presidential assent for the relevant legislation.
- 72 Verifiable Water Projects
According to his supporters, Atuma facilitated no fewer than 72 water projects across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South during his time in the House.
They maintain that several of the projects are still serving residents today, particularly in communities that previously struggled with access to potable water.
- Roads That Connected Communities
Atuma’s supporters also credit him with facilitating several road projects designed to improve access to rural communities.
Among the projects they cite are:
- The 1.6km Ntalakwu-Umuigu Road;
- Ndoro-Ntalakwu Road;
- Umuigwu-Ugbaebila Ring Road;
- Nnono-Olori Court Ring Road;
- Ekenobizi Road and associated erosion-control works in Umuahia South; and
- Other community roads accompanied by solar-powered streetlights.
- Electricity and Erosion-Control Projects
His supporters also point to electricity and erosion-control interventions across the constituency.
These include the Mbom Ibeku Electricity Project in Umuahia North, extensive erosion-control work at Amuru Ibere in Ikwuano and rural electrification projects said to have extended power supply to previously underserved communities.
- Investment in Education, Healthcare and Community Infrastructure
According to the campaign, Atuma’s constituency interventions included modern classroom blocks, renovations of health centres and the construction or improvement of community town halls across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
- Human Capital Development
Atuma’s supporters say his empowerment programmes date back to 2003, when he distributed motorcycles and other livelihood-support equipment to constituents.
They cite the distribution of 100 motorcycles, sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, vehicles and scholarships, as well as start-up support for women.
For 2027, his supporters say his proposed focus will include federal and international employment opportunities, digital skills and sustainable job creation for young people.
- A Homegrown Leader With Strong Community Ties
Supporters describe Atuma as a grassroots politician who maintains strong connections with communities across Abia Central.
They point to his participation in August Meetings, weddings, burials, youth gatherings, church programmes and Iriji/New Yam festivals.
Where he cannot attend personally, they say he often sends trusted representatives.
His supporters believe this sustained grassroots engagement explains the crowds that frequently welcome him during community visits.
- Loyalty Since 2007
Atuma’s supporters also point to what they describe as his political consistency since leaving the National Assembly in 2007.
They say he remained with the All Progressives Congress (APC) even when the party had limited political influence in Abia State and subsequently built the Grace Movement while continuing to support households and communities outside elective office.
- A Businessman and Job Creator
Beyond politics, Atuma is presented by his supporters as a businessman who understands wealth creation and employment.
They argue that his private-sector experience gives him a practical understanding of how businesses can create jobs and improve household incomes.
- Service as a Lifestyle
His supporters further point to his philanthropic activities, including scholarships for indigent students, assistance to widows, support for churches, empowerment programmes for women and assistance with hospital bills.
They describe these interventions as evidence that Atuma’s commitment to service extends beyond periods when he holds political office.
- A Man of Faith and Family Values
Atuma’s supporters also highlight his Christian faith and family values.
They point to his Castle of Grace and describe him as a committed family man whose personal life, faith and family relationships reflect the values he promotes publicly.
- Discipline, Credibility and Trust
Supporters across different political and community circles describe Atuma as disciplined, credible, humble and approachable.
For them, his reputation for keeping his word is one of the qualities that distinguishes him from other aspirants.
- A Potential Bridge to the Federal Government
As a member and loyalist of the APC, the ruling party at the federal level, Atuma’s supporters believe he would be strategically positioned to attract greater federal attention to Abia Central.
They argue that his political relationships within the APC and with the Federal Government could help the district attract federal projects, appointments, opportunities and other forms of development.
They believe this could give Abia Central a stronger voice at the national level.
- The Argument for Equity
Another major argument being advanced by his supporters is that of equity.
They contend that the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency should be allowed to complete its eight-year cycle in the Senate before another part of the senatorial district takes its turn.
For them, supporting Atuma is therefore not only about competence but also about fairness and rotational equity.
- A Leader Who Listens and Remembers
Supporters describe Atuma as a leader who listens attentively, responds to people’s concerns and maintains personal relationships with constituents.
They say he remembers names, families and communities and remains accessible to people who approach him for assistance.
- Growing Endorsements Across Abia Central
Atuma’s supporters also point to a growing list of groups, community leaders and organisations backing his ambition.
Those mentioned include:
- Kabila Movement;
- Isiala Ngwa South Adoption led by Hon. Chief I.K. Anyatonwu;
- Isiala Ngwa North Equity Movement, led by former Speaker Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu;
- Osisioma stakeholders;
- Umuahia North stakeholders;
- Ikwuano stakeholders;
- Nine Clans Youth Presidents;
- Abia Central Students Association (ACSA);
- Motorcycle Riders Associations of Umuojima, Osisioma and Ndoro Junction, Ikwuano;
- Atuma Friends International;
- Atuma Grace Movement;
- Kwechiri Movement; and
- Ohuhu Clan traditional rulers, who honoured him with the Ihie-Ukwu Ohuhu Chieftaincy Title.
Conclusion
For his supporters, Hon. Emeka Atuma is not approaching the 2027 Senate race as a newcomer seeking to learn on the job.
They argue that his previous legislative experience, constituency interventions, grassroots connections, political consistency and private-sector background have prepared him for the responsibilities of the Senate.
As the 2027 political season gathers momentum, the central question for Abia Central voters will be whether Atuma’s past record and proposed agenda can translate into the support needed to secure the senatorial ticket and, ultimately, the seat.
For his supporters, however, the message is already clear: Kabila represents experience, continuity and tested leadership—and they want the people of Abia Central to give him their mandate in 2027.
