Edo Assembly Summons Natasha Osawaru Over Viral Altercation With Husband, 2Baba

“Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Egor lawmaker Natasha Osawaru after a viral video showed her in a heated confrontation with her husband, musician 2Baba. Speaker Agbebaku says her conduct has brought the Assembly into disrepute. Ethics Committee to investigate.”

The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned the lawmaker representing Egor Constituency, Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week following the circulation of a viral video showing her in a heated confrontation with her husband, renowned Nigerian musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.

The viral clip, filmed inside a London shop, captured Osawaru raising her voice at her husband while saying: “Don’t do it. Don’t fucking do it! Na everyday you go dey shout for me? Wetin dey happen? Why are you raising your voice at me?” The video has been shared widely across social media and aired on major television platforms.

Addressing the matter during Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, said the lawmaker’s conduct had brought the Assembly into public disrepute, describing the situation as “embarrassing for the legislature.”

Agbebaku said:
“For the past one week, she has been trending negatively on electronic and social media platforms — TVC, Silverbird, and other stations. Distinguished Members, of recent, this Honourable House, with cerebral and highly educated members, has been dragged to the mud for too long by our colleague, Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru.”

He stressed that the Assembly will not allow the misconduct of one member to taint its reputation, stating:
“We want to let the public know that this House is a decent and reputable House. In Nigeria as a whole, this House is the best. We have responsible and intelligent members here. So the attitude or misconduct of a member cannot drag the House to disrepute.”

Following debate among members, the Speaker directed Osawaru to appear before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges within one week to explain her conduct and why she is “dragging the name of the House in the mud.”

The committee has been given two weeks to investigate the issue and present its findings to the full Assembly. The inquiry is expected to determine whether the lawmaker’s behaviour — though captured in her private life but widely publicised — constitutes a breach of the Assembly’s code of conduct and whether sanctions are appropriate.

Throughout the session, Agbebaku maintained that the summons was a disciplinary measure aimed at safeguarding the institutional integrity of the legislature rather than a personal attack.
