ABIA DECIDES: We will invigorate electricity availability, rehabilitation centres across the state… APC’s Emenike
The Abia State APC’s gubernatorial candidate, High Chief Ikechi Emenike has pledged to intensify electricity supply, as well as erect Social Services and Rehabilitation Centres across the nooks and crannies of the State.
Emenike who vowed to set up specialized mental health and rehabilitation centres in each of the three senatorial districts, if elected into office, regretted the deteriorating health condition of the youths of Abia.
In an exclusive interview with famousreporters.com, the frontline governorship candidate decried the poor presence of government facilities to cater for the vulnerable across the State.
He regretted that majority of Abia youths, saddled with frustration and depression, had resorted to drug addiction, and all manners of social vices.
Emenike, however, vowed to ensure that his administration, through the laid down facilities, would transform the lives of the youths who have seemingly resigned to fate, consequent upon what he described as protracted ill governance.
“It is appalling that Abia State lacks government facilities to take care of the vulnerable members of our society. Thus, we will set up specialized mental health and rehabilitation centres in each of the three senatorial districts. Some of our youths are addicted to dangerous chemicals, illicit drugs and alcohol, and this bad habit has devastated their lives and those of their families.
“Our Government will not abandon the affected youths. We will work to transform their lives and enable them to become healthy, drug-and-alcohol free, and contributing members of our State.
In the area of water, as a basic social amenity, Emenike promised Abians that “Water infrastructure shall receive purity attention. The days of water shortages in Abia are numbered. Water will flow throughout the State. Our government will embark on massive pipe-borne water projects in the towns that will also connect the rural areas. Water is life and we will make easy access to it our cardinal responsibility.
“Even the global community has recognized the looming danger of world-water crisis, and is responding. Many Abians would be amazed that there are billions and billions of dollars in water funds floating all over the world. Indeed, there are several forms of water initiatives and funds available for any informed state government to access. A few of such financial sources include the AfDB Water Initiative, World Bank Water Fund and the United Nations Water Programme.
“There are many more at the bilateral level. Indeed, there are many bilateral water initiatives that can be harnessed to make clean and healthy water available for all Abians”, he said
