Kaduna Woman Dies in Bandits’ Captivity as Son Is Killed After Delivering Ransom
A tragic kidnapping incident has left a family and an entire community in mourning after a woman abducted by suspected bandits in Kaduna State reportedly died in captivity, while her first son was allegedly killed after delivering ransom in a desperate attempt to secure her freedom.
The deceased woman was kidnapped in December 2025 from Bayan Dutse, Narayi, in Kaduna South Local Government Area.
According to reports, her abductors demanded a ransom far beyond what her family and members of the community could afford.
A community member, identified as Noble, disclosed the heartbreaking development in a Facebook post on Saturday, July 4, 2026. He explained that despite efforts by relatives and well-wishers, the family could not raise the full amount demanded by the kidnappers within the stipulated period.
Determined to save his mother, her first son, Joshua, volunteered to deliver the money the family had managed to raise in the hope of negotiating her release.
However, tragedy struck when Joshua arrived at the kidnappers’ hideout and discovered that his mother had already died while in captivity.
According to the account, the kidnappers collected the ransom but allegedly turned against Joshua, seized him, and later tortured him to death.
Expressing grief over the incident, Noble called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to investigate the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
“To the Government and Security Authorities of Kaduna State, we write to express our deep sorrow and concern over the tragic loss of a beloved mother and her firstborn son, victims of the growing insecurity and kidnapping crisis affecting communities in Kaduna State,” he wrote.
He described the deceased woman as a cheerful, compassionate and widely respected member of her community whose abduction devastated family members, friends and neighbours.
“Following her kidnapping, her captors demanded a ransom far beyond the financial capacity of her family and members of the community. Despite desperate efforts to secure her freedom, the family was unable to raise the required amount within the stipulated time.
“In an effort to save his mother, her firstborn son courageously undertook the responsibility of delivering funds in the hope of negotiating her release. Tragically, upon arrival, he discovered that his mother had already lost her life while in captivity.
“The ordeal did not end there. The son himself was reportedly seized by the kidnappers and subjected to further abuse. Sadly, he also lost his life, leaving behind a grieving wife, children and other family members.”
He added that the heartbreaking incident underscores the devastating impact of kidnapping and insecurity on ordinary Nigerians and raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to curb violent crimes in the country.
Noble also appealed to Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
“This cannot become the new normal. It must stop,” he said.
