A late-night domestic dispute in an Ogun community has ended in tragedy, leaving a Celestial Church of Christ evangelist and his wife dead within hours of each other.

A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have died after a reported domestic dispute at their home in Akinode/Ibogun, Ogun State. Neighbours found Adenike seriously injured and bleeding, while Odukoya was later reportedly struck by a vehicle in the Ifo area. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

A late-night domestic dispute in an Ogun community has ended in tragedy, leaving a Celestial Church of Christ evangelist and his wife dead within hours of each other.

The couple, identified as Abidemi Odukoya and his wife, Adenike, reportedly died following an alleged physical altercation at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community of Ogun State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, according to accounts from residents.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway to establish what happened.

Neighbours hear cries for help
Adejimi Olawumi, a former chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), said residents were alerted by cries for help at about 1am.

He said he rushed towards the area after hearing people shouting, “thief, thief.”
Olawumi said he encountered the couple’s son, Daniel, while heading to the house.

“On my way out, I saw Daniel. I asked him what happened, and he said it was his mum and dad,” he said in a video shared by Arole TV.
According to the community leader, residents entered the house and found Adenike lying injured in a pool of blood.

He said efforts were made to get her to a hospital. However, no vehicle was immediately available to transport her.

The couple’s son reportedly told residents that he was in another room when the incident occurred. He therefore did not witness what happened between his parents.

Husband reportedly found after road crash
As residents tried to locate Odukoya, they discovered that he was no longer at home.
A search was subsequently launched for the evangelist.

He was later reportedly found in the Ifo area of Ogun State after being struck by a vehicle.
“The police took him to the hospital, and we confirmed that he was the one,” Olawumi said.
The community leader added that the CDA later made arrangements to bring Odukoya’s remains home.

The circumstances surrounding the road crash, including how it was connected, if at all, to the earlier incident at the couple’s home, remain unclear.

Family speaks on couple’s repeated disagreements
The tragedy has also prompted fresh accounts about previous disagreements between the couple.

Odukoya’s younger sister, speaking in a separate video circulating online, said the couple had experienced repeated conflicts before their deaths.

She recalled that the couple had visited her around April following an earlier altercation.
According to her, the matter was taken to a police station and was eventually resolved.
“I only told them to be patient with each other because it is not right for a husband and wife to fight against each other,” she said.

She added that the couple had reportedly been involved in disagreements for a long time and that people had intervened to settle their differences on several occasions.
“And now we just heard that the husband and wife are dead,” she said.

Police investigate deaths
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Opeyemi Oluborode, the command’s deputy spokesperson, said the police were looking into the matter.
“The police are investigating the incident,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, the police had not publicly established what caused Adenike’s injuries or provided a detailed account of how Odukoya was struck by the vehicle.

The family said Adenike was buried on the day of the incident, while Odukoya was buried on Wednesday, September 2.

Footage circulating online also showed clerics conducting burial rites over Odukoya’s remains.
The exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.
