The suspect, identified as Progressive Mungwariri, from Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge, allegedly attacked her 35-year-old husband, Marlvin Daniso, after discovering footage of him at a recent performance by popular Zimbabwean sungura musician, Alick Macheso.

The State told the court that Mungwariri allegedly carried out the attack at about 1am while her husband was asleep in their bedroom. She reportedly poured boiling cooking oil on his private parts, leaving him with serious burns.

Neighbours were said to have rushed to the couple’s residence after hearing Daniso screaming in pain.

Mungwariri subsequently appeared before Regional Magistrate Charity Maphosa to face a charge of physical abuse under Zimbabwe’s Domestic Violence Act. However, she denied the allegations.

She was remanded in custody, while her trial was initially scheduled for October 30, 2026.

The case reportedly took another troubling turn following allegations that Mungwariri attempted to take her own life after the incident.
