Outrage in UNIPORT, As Student Accused Sets Boyfriend Ablaze

The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State (UNIPORT) is on the spotlight again following a horrific domestic violence which has not only sent shockwaves on the campus but also across Rivers State, as a young man, identified as Sunny Amadi, reportedly died from severe burns allegedly inflicted by his girlfriend, Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt.

The incident allegedly occurred on Ogboro Street in Choba, near the University campus. According to viral reports circulating on social media, Cynthia, said to be from Odohua in Emohua Local Government Area, allegedly set Sunny ablaze inside his residence. Sunny, a 29-year-old from Elibrada, also in Emohua LGA, reportedly succumbed to his injuries after sustaining third-degree burns across a vast portion of his body.

Rumour has it that Cynthia took to her heels immediately after perpetrating the dastardly act. This is even as all efforts to trace her whereabouts have ended in utter futility.

As at the time of filing this report, police authorities in the State are yet to release an official statement as it regards the heart wrenching incident.

Meanwhile, the horrific incident has sparked public outcry, with many condemning the growing trend of gender-based violence and demanding equal attention for male victims.
