Unite, tackle high rate of insecurity Kalu urges S’East Governors, Traditional rulers, others
A clarion call has been made to the Governors of the Southeast geo-political zone, security agencies, traditional rulers to unanimously deduce a means to combat the spate of insecurity in the region.
The Chief Whip of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who appealed to all relevant stakeholders in the region via his social media handle, described the situation as a a reflection of “the real agony of our citizens and communities”.
He said: “The data on security incidents in Abia State and Nigeria at large reflects the real agony of our citizens and communities, their pains and losses, and the fears and anxiety that have created considerable distress.”

“I am deeply concerned about the impact of the state of insecurity on citizens’ safety, means of livelihood and the exercise of the rights of Abians, Nigerians, particularly the right to life, right to movement, and ultimately the country’s socio-economic development.
“On my part, I have met with heads of security agencies to discuss about the state of insecurity in our state and region. Few days ago, I also met with the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria to discuss about security issues with him, which he promised to assist us.
“During my tenure as the Governor of Abia State, Security of lives and properties was one of my priorities and I was able to deal with the issue of insecurity using every instrument available to me.
“I’m appealing to the Governors of the Southeast geo-political zone, security agencies, traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders to unite and tackle the high rate of insecurity in our region and Nigeria at large”, Kalu pleaded.
