President Bola Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency, directing the Nigerian Police Force and the Armed Forces to embark on an expanded recruitment drive to tackle escalating insecurity across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement issued from the State House on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the President ordered the police to recruit an additional 20,000 personnel, raising the total number of new officers expected to join the force to 50,000. He further approved the use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as temporary training centres to fast-track the deployment of new recruits.
Tinubu warned criminal elements that the government would no longer tolerate ongoing attacks, cautioning that “restraint should never be mistaken for weakness.” He vowed that the security agencies would take decisive and coordinated action in the days ahead.
The President also appealed for national unity, vigilance, and stronger cooperation with security operatives, stressing that “we are in this fight together, and together we shall win.”
