Senator Orji Uzor Kalu And The Bid For Presidency Come 2023 (Opinion)

The rumours of the Senate Chief Whip,Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid for presidency come 2023 has gone beyond imagination and rumours. This is so because, the clarion call and the posters in circulation around the country indicating him as the people’s choice for presidency is very apt. Though, OUK is yet to make an official statement in respect of the clamour from all quarters and zones for him to lead Nigeria come 2023,but the reasons for this bid are not far fetched and they are not flippant reasons.

The level of work he did in Abia State as Governor and still doing as the Senator representing Abia North senatorial zone speak volumes. Even across Nigeria, OUK has touched on many lives including granting scholarships to Nigerians both in Nigeria Universities and abroad through his foundation. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is not doing all these for any personal reason, rather,he sees the entire country as his constituency. Much that OUK is doing currently is simply best witnessed than told.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s connection to oversea countries and his responsiveness to the problems and cries of Abians in particular and Nigerians at large are immeasurable. Can one imagine that OUK took pains to facilitate the release of more than 100 prison inmates and built facilities for Correctional Centre at Kuje prison? Is he the only one in Nigeria that had been there? OUK’s meekness and passion towards the suffering of others cannot be quantified . Recently, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bill for the amendment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA),2015 which has scaled second reading epitomized his love and feeling for the downtrodden. What a concerned Nigerian this great personality of our time is.His actions towards the masses are very eloquent.Abians and Nigerians in every nook and cranny hold unending discussions on the benevolent and unparalleled activities of this Master Strategist with uncommon political sagacity.

Another un concealable reason for the wise consideration of OUK as President come 2023 is the fearless nature in which this great and detribalized Nigerian speaks on behalf of Igbo people. He condemns the marginalization of Ndigbo in different aspects of national life and fora.Since APC as a progressive party has deemed it expedient to zone the President of Nigeria to Southern Nigeria and the South West and South- South have taken their shots,it would not be a misnomer to allow the South East to have a stint come 2023 for equity sake and justice.

The Ibos should not leave any stone unturned to ensure that South East is not denied this opportunity.

What makes Orji Uzor Kalu the best candidate for presidency come 2023 in the hearts of most Nigerians is the brave mannerism in which he made a clarion call for an Igbo president for Nigeria in 2003 election which call he made in 2001 during Igbo summit at Enugu. In the said meeting, OUK said and I quote,”unless we(Ndigbo) get the presidency in the 2003 election, we may not get it again for the next 20 years”. Between the year this man that sees tomorrow made the statement and 2023 would be exactly 20years. Can Ndigbo again allow 2023 to elude us? Can we not front a person that can reach out to the North and West in the person of Orji Uzor Kalu to lead this struggle? If we fail to project this political guru with the political myth, economic stability ,social outreach and contact,we may say had I known. The time to consider and project this young vibrant, energetic, selfless politician with the requisite qualities is now to avert I known and may God forbid.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu even as the Governor of Abia State, has continued to speak for the emancipation of the Igbo people which had earned him several knocks for daring to speak up against the marginalization of Ndigbo. It will not be out of place to reward this great Iroko for his astuteness and love for his people by solely presenting him to other tribes in Nigeria as his marketability would be very smooth in other zones.

Given all the aforementioned and other attributes that make Orji Uzor Kalu outstanding,he speaks, reacts and responds to the interest of not just the Igbo race,but of all Nigerians at large.Surprises may not hold on why different groups and prominent individuals across the country call on Orji Uzor Kalu to stand for the presidential election come 2023. All that is required from Ndigbo irrespective of party affiliation is to rally round this detribalized Nigerian who would be easily accepted by all and sundry. It is our duty to now persuade and convince this blessed son and voice of Ndigbo to make up his mind and go for us. OUK is ready to take the bull by the horn if we all rally round him and the time to do so is now.Orji Uzor Kalu as a crowd puller and man of the people is eminently suitable to lead us to the promised land like the Biblical Moses.The time to act is now as tomorrow may be too late.
