Senate Passes Vote Of Confidence On Henry Ikoh,          …Screens Buhari’s Ministerial Nominees

The Senate has commenced the screening of the seven ministerial nominees forwarded to the red chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation.

The nominees, accompanied to the National Assembly by family members and supporters, were screened individually by the upper chamber at the plenary.

Buhari, in a letter dated 15th June, 2022, requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of seven ministerial nominees.

He said the confirmation request was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

The nominees are: Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh – Abia State; Umana Okon Umana – Akwa Ibom State; Ekumankama Joseph Nkama- Ebonyi State; and Goodluck Nanah Opiah – Imo State.

Other nominees are Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegoroye – Ondo State; and Odum Udi – Rivers State.

 

 

Responding, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe thanked the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan for his choice of an Abian as a Minister-nomimee, as he called for support from his colleagues to enable Ikoh deliver his duties effectively.

He expressed utter confidence in the Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Foam Industry,

He said: “Mr. President, this nominee is from Abia State and we know him and we say thank you very much for finding him fit to serve as a Minister and we’re confident that he will do a good job. So, I commend my colleagues to, please, accord him everything that you can on our behalf so that we can today, affirm that he will be a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Another member of the House of Senate had this to say: “Chief Henry Ikoh is someone that is well known to me. In fact, he was the chairman of my screening committee in 2019 and when he screened me, he didn’t know that I’d be here today to be screen. And by the special grace of God, he is here today and I’m screening him. I wish him well and I pray to God Almighty that he brings in his wealth of experience to bear in the position that will be given to him.”
