OMPAN not stooge to government, Opposition party’s attack dog —says PUO
The State Chairman of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria(OMPAN), Abia State Chapter, Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro, has assured that members of the association cannot serve as stooges to government in power nor attack dogs of opposition political parties in the state.
In a statement on Monday in Umuahia, the state chairman of OMPAN said as members of the fourth estate of the realm, OMPAN believes in impartiality and fairness, adding that it is the duty of the members of the association to report the activities of the government, as well as opposition parties in the state.
The OMPAN Chairman also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the association “is now a stooge in the hands of the present administration in the state.”
Continuing, the Chairman said:
“We are independent voices in OMPAN. We cannot ac formally or informally on behalf of any special interest; whether political, corporate or cultural, everyone will be given the opportunity to tell their stories.
“In our attempt to balance stories, nobody should see us as stooges or attack dogs.”
He said under his watch, the members of the association will continue to build solid relationships across boards and contribute their quota to the development of the state.
