OLOWU FIRE INCIDENT: Army 9 Brigade Commander Akpaumontia holds on-the-spot at Spareparts Market

 

 

Following the fire incident at Olowu Spareparts Market in Ikeja general area, Lagos State on 23rd March 2023, the Commander of Army 9 Brigade, Brig. Gen. IE Akpaumontia and his entourage visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment. During the visit, the Army contingent founded that 13 shops, 4 warehouse and a restaurant were razed down during the inferno. The shops contained air conditioners, vehicles and motorcycles’ parts worth millions of Naira, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP gathered.

 

The fire was later put out by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service/ NEMA officials. Efforts are ongoing to unravel the cause of the fire incident.

Commenting on the matter, Brig. Gen. Akpaumontia said: ‘The fire incident at Olowu market calls for serious security concerns. This is particularly so as this incident makes it the third major inferno on markets in Lagos State within one month. The first was the Spareparts market at Akere in Ajegunle general area on 8 Mar 23 and the second at Balogun market on 29 Mar 23. This underscores the need to consciously investigate the causes of these incessant menace. To this end, the Brigade would continue to liaise with the other security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the Fire.’

‘Additionally, sister agencies like the DSS and the Intelligence arm of the Police in Lagos State could also initiate investigation into the reoccurring incidents. This will combat the recurrence of the incidences in Lagos and possibly arrest the culprits involved in the criminal act’, Akpaumontia told NAOSNP.
