Obi Charles Withdraws from Ikwuano Youth Election, Alleges Threats, Disenfranchisement
Just hours before the highly anticipated Ikwuano Development Union Federated (IDU-F) Youth Wing election, one of the leading aspirants, Maazi Obi Charles, has dramatically withdrawn from the race. Alleging threats to his life, intimidation of his supporters, and the disenfranchisement of delegates from his clan, the aspirant says he would rather step aside than allow the election to endanger lives or undermine democratic principles.
Maazi Obi Charles withdrew from the Ikwuano Development Union Federated (IDU-F) Youth Wing presidential election, alleging threats to his safety, intimidation of his supporters, and the disenfranchisement of delegates from his clan. He also cited calls by clan presidents-general for the election to be postponed, insisting that no aspirant should act contrary to the collective position of their clan leadership.
Maazi Obi Charles, an aspirant for the office of President-General of the Ikwuano Development Union Federated (IDU-F) Youth Wing, has announced his withdrawal from the election scheduled to hold on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Ikwuano Local Government Council Headquarters in Isiala.
In a statement issued ahead of the poll, Charles said his decision followed what he described as growing tension surrounding the election, alleged threats to his life and supporters, and the reported disenfranchisement of delegates from his clan.

According to him:
“Having observed the tension, threats to myself and my supporters, as well as the obvious disenfranchisement of my clan delegates in the ongoing IDU-F Youth Wing election, I, Charles Obi Adiezeh, an aspirant for the position of President-General, hereby boycott and withdraw from the election.”
The youth leader stressed that his ambition was never worth risking lives or fueling further tension within the Ikwuano community.
“I am not desperate to serve the youths of Ikwuano. Therefore, I will not risk injury to myself or the lives of the many Ikwuano youths who overwhelmingly seek positive change.”
Charles also aligned his decision with the earlier position reportedly taken by the Presidents-General of the various clans, who had called for the postponement of the election over issues they considered significant.
“Standing on the publications of the respected Clan Presidents-General calling for the postponement of this election due to several reasons and information available to them, no aspirant should stand in isolation from his clan.”
He expressed appreciation to his supporters for their encouragement throughout the campaign.
“I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received, both online and from those who privately reached out to encourage me. I am deeply humbled by your love and inspired by your hope and belief in a better Ikwuano. I sincerely plead for your understanding regarding my decision.”
Despite stepping down from the race, Charles assured the people of Ikwuano that his commitment to the community remains unwavering.
“I will continue to be the same progressive and patriotic son of Ikwuano. Together, we must do better for our people.”
His withdrawal comes amid heightened interest in the IDU-F Youth Wing election, with stakeholders expected to closely monitor developments surrounding the exercise.
