2027 Election Warning: Nigeria Faces Deeper Crisis Without Youth Unity, GOMEP-NG President Warns
“Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, GOMEP-NG President, has warned that Nigeria risks facing a deeper governance crisis before the 2027 elections if citizens fail to unite against bad governance, corruption, insecurity and poor leadership. He called on Nigerian youths to embrace civic participation and accountability.”
Nigeria’s future could be at a critical turning point ahead of the 2027 general elections as the National President of the Guild of Online Media and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, warns that rising divisions among citizens may worsen the country’s governance challenges. He has urged Nigerians, especially youths, to unite, demand accountability and place national interest above ethnic, religious and political differences.
The National President of the Guild of Online Media and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, has raised concerns over Nigeria’s governance future, warning that the country could experience deeper socio-political challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections if citizens fail to unite and demand responsible leadership.
Otiti, who spoke on the state of the nation, expressed worry over what he described as increasing divisions among Nigerians and the growing silence of individuals and groups expected to hold public office holders accountable.
According to him, Nigeria’s search for good governance may remain difficult as long as citizens continue to prioritise ethnic, religious and political differences over collective national interests.
He stated that sustainable development can only be achieved when Nigerians collectively speak against corruption, insecurity, poor governance and policies that negatively affect the welfare of citizens.
“As long as Nigerians continue to fight among themselves, nothing will change. As long as those who are supposed to challenge bad governance remain silent, we will not achieve the desired good governance. The youths must unite for a common cause and place the nation’s interest above every other consideration,” Otiti said.
The media executive further noted that Nigerian youths represent the largest segment of the population and have the potential to significantly influence the nation’s political and economic direction when properly organised.
However, he lamented that many young Nigerians have become distracted by ethnic, political and sectional interests, weakening their collective ability to demand reforms and promote accountability.
Otiti warned that failure to build a united citizens’ movement ahead of the 2027 elections could worsen existing challenges, including unemployment, poverty, insecurity and weak public service delivery.
He therefore called on youths, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to embrace unity, active citizenship and constructive democratic engagement to secure a better future for Nigeria.
“The future of Nigeria depends largely on the willingness of its citizens, especially the youth, to rise above divisions and work together for national development. If we fail to do so, the country may witness a more difficult situation by 2027,” he added.
