Newlywed Woman Arrested After Husband Dies in Abia Kitchen Knife Incident
A marriage that began just eight months ago has ended in tragedy in Abia State, after a domestic disagreement reportedly left a newlywed man dead and his wife in police custody.
A newly married woman, Mrs Sarah Innocent, has been arrested after her husband died following an alleged stabbing during a domestic disagreement in Ohuru Ishimiri village, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State. Police said the victim was taken to a medical facility, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators have begun probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman, identified as Mrs Sarah Innocent, has been arrested by the police in connection with the death of her husband following an altercation at Ohuru Ishimiri village in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, while the couple had been married since December 2025, according to family members of the deceased.
The police confirmed the incident on Monday evening.
According to the Abia State Police Command, the incident was reported at the Ohuru Ishimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on August 9, 2026.
Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the report indicated that Mrs Innocent allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a kitchen knife during a domestic disagreement.
The victim was subsequently rushed to a medical facility for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead by a doctor.
Following the incident, police said the crime scene was examined as part of the preliminary investigation.
The deceased’s body was also deposited at a morgue for autopsy to help determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been taken into police custody as investigators continue their inquiry.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is handling the investigation to establish what led to the altercation and determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The police have not disclosed further details about the alleged disagreement or the events that preceded the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
