NAOSNP Hails Tinubu’s Appointment of Tunji Disu as Acting IGP, Says ‘No Better Choice’

“In a significant development within Nigeria’s security architecture, the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, describing the decision as timely, strategic and well-deserved at a critical moment in the nation’s history.”

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has congratulated Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a seasoned officer whose track record reflects integrity, professionalism and operational excellence.
Disu succeeds Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned to attend to family matters.

In a statement signed by the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eric Elezuo, NAOSNP described the appointment as “a typical example of putting a round peg in a round hole,” noting that Disu’s elevation to the peak of his policing career would boost officers’ morale and strengthen the fight against crime nationwide.

“The National Association of Online Security News Publishers is pleased to identify with the appointment of a super cop well known for integrity and remarkable track record, Mr. Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as the new Acting Inspector-General of Police,” the statement read.

“We have followed your career trajectory and can convincingly conclude that President Bola Tinubu could not have made a better choice.”
The Association further expressed confidence that Disu would deploy his wealth of policing intelligence, steadfastness and patriotism to restore public trust and enhance national security.

“While believing that you will bring your years of experience in policing to bear in this national assignment, we congratulate you for attaining the peak of your career and pledge our utmost commitment as a security reporting association desirous of seeing a crime-free Nigeria,” NAOSNP added.

Also speaking, NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Olatunji Samson, commended President Tinubu for what he described as a strategic decision.

“Disu is a name synonymous with policing in this country. He has proven his mettle in all positions and locations he has served. We are confident he will deliver on his mandate of restoring peace, strengthening internal security and sanitising the Force,” he said.

Until his latest appointment, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. He was promoted to the rank of AIG last year after serving with distinction as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command under retired IGP Egbetokun.

A respected member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Disu previously headed the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team, a strategic unit once led by Abba Kyari. He also earned commendation during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), popularly known as the “Good Boys,” in Lagos State.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Disu enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. Over the years, he has served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ago Iwoye (Ogun State), Ikare and Owo (Ondo State), as well as Elimbu and Elelenwo in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, NAOSNP also acknowledged the contributions of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, appreciating his engagement with the media association.

“We recall the leadership advantage provided by the immediate past IGP. You gave your best to the nation and to the profession you loved so much,” the statement noted.

The Association further referenced Egbetokun’s participation in its Annual National Security Conference, where he attended as a keynote speaker and award recipient through the then Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Acting IGP Tunji Disu has since assumed office, with expectations high that his leadership will mark a new phase in Nigeria’s policing strategy.
