‘Aliyu Mohammed, husband of late Islamic teacher Ummulkhairi Usman, has claimed that his wife was innocent and wrongly accused of child theft before she was killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He has called for justice over the incident.”

The husband of late Islamic teacher, Ummulkhairi Usman, has spoken out over the tragic death of his wife, insisting that she was innocent and wrongly accused before she was killed by an angry mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Aliyu Mohammed said his wife, who worked as an Islamiyya school teacher, did not commit any crime and was only on her way to attend a religious lecture when she was stopped and accused of stealing children.

According to a report by Daily Trust on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Mohammed revealed that he was at work when he received a phone call informing him that his wife had allegedly been accused of attempting to kidnap children.

He explained that he immediately contacted a friend and asked him to rush to the scene before he arrived.

However, Mohammed said that by the time he got there, the mob had already attacked and killed his wife.

“She was an Islamic teacher and was simply on her way to attend a religious lecture when people stopped her and accused her of stealing children. I called a friend and asked him to go there before I arrived. By the time I got there, they had already burnt her,” Mohammed said.

Meanwhile, in a video shared by Arise News on Tuesday, June 23, the victim’s husband expressed shock over the incident and called for justice, saying he was still struggling to understand the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.

Reports indicate that Ummulkhairi Usman had reportedly asked some children for directions while heading to an Islamic lecture, but she was allegedly mistaken for a child trafficker, leading to the mob attack.

Mohammed appealed for a thorough investigation, urging authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
