“I Married Regina Daniels Out of Family Pressure, Not Love” — Ned Nwoko’s Old Interview Resurfaces

A past interview featuring Nigerian billionaire businessman and politician, Senator Ned Nwoko, has resurfaced online amid the ongoing marital crisis between him and popular Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, shedding fresh light on the origin of their controversial union.

In the viral video recorded in 2024 with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, Nwoko openly admitted that he did not marry Regina out of love, but rather because of intense family pressure to take a wife from his hometown.

“For her particularly, I married her because she is from my place. I was under pressure from my family,” Nwoko confessed.

He went on to explain that he never believed in the concept of dating before marriage, adding that most of his marriages happened within a few weeks of meeting his wives.

“I don’t believe in dating before marriage,” he said. “When you marry someone, you learn to fall in love from within the marriage.”

The revelation has stirred heated conversations online, especially as it comes barely 48 hours after explosive allegations between the couple went viral.

Regina Daniels had accused the senator of physical abuse, while Nwoko, in turn, alleged that the actress struggled with drug addiction and had destroyed property while under the influence — claims to which she is yet to respond publicly.

In a previous BBC interview, Nwoko also recounted how he first met Regina when she visited his residence with her mother and siblings. According to him, he had no prior knowledge of her acting career and did not court her before proposing.

“We married within three weeks,” he recalled. “I didn’t even know she was an actress. She came to my house with her family, and we connected. I proposed soon after, and we got married.”

The old interview has reignited public debate over their marriage, which has long been a subject of controversy due to their age difference, cultural expectations, and now, Nwoko’s revelation that love was never the foundation of their relationship.
