GOMEP-NG Celebrates Akpovoke Otiti, Hails Courage and Commitment to Accountability

ASABA — The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has celebrated its National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, on his birthday, describing him as a media professional whose journey reflects courage, resilience, professionalism and a strong commitment to responsible journalism.

For the GOMEP-NG family, Otiti’s birthday is not simply a celebration of another year.

Rather, it is an opportunity to recognise a leader whose professional journey has been shaped by challenges, lessons and a determination to keep moving forward.

GOMEP-NG has praised its National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, for his courage, professionalism, resilience and commitment to responsible journalism, transparency and accountability.

The Guild noted that Otiti has consistently demonstrated a strong understanding of the ethics and responsibilities of journalism.

In particular, he has continued to uphold the principle that the media must remain fair, balanced and professionally detached while asking difficult questions in the interest of transparency and accountability.

According to the Guild, his approach to journalism is rooted in the belief that the media should not become an instrument of political favour or personal interest.

Instead, it should remain a credible platform through which citizens can seek answers from those entrusted with public responsibilities.

As National President of GOMEP-NG, Otiti has also continued to promote professionalism and responsible media practice.

He has encouraged journalists and online publishers to recognise the influence that comes with operating in the digital media space. More importantly, he has stressed the responsibility that must accompany that influence.

‘Learn, unlearn and relearn’

One of the qualities that GOMEP-NG considers remarkable in Otiti’s journey is his willingness to “learn, unlearn and relearn.”

The Guild said that through challenges, criticisms, unexpected obstacles and the pressures of leadership, he has continued to evolve.

Rather than allowing difficult periods to define him, Otiti has demonstrated the resilience to learn from experience, weather the storms and continue building.

Consequently, his achievements cannot be measured only by positions held or milestones recorded.

They are also reflected in the lessons he has learnt, the people he has inspired and the professional values he continues to uphold.
GOMEP-NG further described Otiti as a leader who understands that leadership comes with responsibility.
