FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Wins 2025 Road Safety Champion Award, Commends NAOSNP
“FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed wins the 2025 NAOSNP Road Safety Champion Award, recognised for driving major reforms in Nigeria’s transportation safety sector.”
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has been named the winner of the 2025 Road Safety Champion Award by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP). The honour, presented at the association’s National Conference/Awards in Lagos, recognises his “aggressive transformation agenda” in road transportation safety and his commitment to advancing a safer road environment across Nigeria.
In his remarks, NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Samson, highlighted the increasing responsibility of the media—particularly online security platforms—in shaping public understanding in an era marked by complex security challenges, misinformation, and evolving technology. He noted that the event symbolised “a critical partnership between those who safeguard the nation and those who shape public opinion,” calling for deeper collaboration between media professionals and security agencies to ensure accurate and responsible reporting.
According to him, “Building and safeguarding a nation requires robust collaboration and partnerships among stakeholders.” He urged all award recipients to continue carrying out their duties with renewed patriotism and dedication.
Delivering the keynote address, former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Air Vice Marshal Bashir Rimi Mamman, underscored the connection between security, governance, and national development. He stressed the need for unity, ethical journalism, and collective responsibility in tackling the country’s security challenges. “This event serves as a platform for reinforcing the media’s role in national security and its commitment to safeguarding the nation,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, emphasised the role of security as a foundation for economic stability. Addressing the conference theme, “Securing and Safeguarding Nigeria’s Economic Resources,” he noted the need for synergy between economic priorities and security operations. He highlighted the importance of strengthening identity systems, cross-sector partnerships, and ethical security institutions to protect both tangible resources—such as infrastructure and ports—and intangible ones like revenue flows and investor confidence.
“As Nigeria continues to aim for growth, investment, and resource optimisation, the link between security and the economy remains central,” he said.
The award on behalf of FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed was received by the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat. In his remarks, the Corps Marshal reiterated that “every movement starts and ends on the road,” stressing the centrality of transportation to national development. He noted that road traffic crashes significantly disrupt supply chains, increasing operational costs across the transport sector.
He assured the public that the FRSC—being the Federal Government’s lead agency for road traffic management—will continue to enforce safety reforms as the government intensifies investment in infrastructure and combats inefficiencies within the system.
Mohammed also urged the media to maintain high standards of professionalism, stating that journalists must “raise public awareness on road safety, hold stakeholders accountable, and ensure integrity in their reportage.” He dedicated the award to the hardworking personnel of the FRSC.
The event also featured the presentation of the NAOSNP Best Security Agency Spokesperson of the Year Award to the FRSC Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide.
Dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the former Chief of Defence Staff; the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; AIG Adegoke Fayoade; and the representative of the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, among others.
The NAOSNP Annual National Security Conference/Awards has grown into the largest media-organised security conference in Nigeria, attracting key public and private stakeholders across the country’s security architecture.
