A family outing turned into an unimaginable tragedy in Florida when a lightning strike killed a 31-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter within seconds, leaving the girl’s father to mourn the devastating loss of his wife and child.

The tragedy happened at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as the family arrived at a relative’s home for a family dinner.

According to police and local reports, the weather had begun to deteriorate. The family was trying to get inside when lightning suddenly struck Kenya and her daughter.

Kameron Glasgow, Kenya’s husband and the girl’s father, said he was only a short distance away when the lightning struck. He also felt an electrical shock from the ground.

The tragedy unfolded in the 7900 block of Northwest First Street in Margate.

Witness Hears ‘Loudest Lightning Strike’

A neighbour, Prince Moody, said he was inside his home when he heard a powerful boom.

He also said he saw an orange glow through his window before rushing outside to help.

Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports that two people had been struck by lightning and were lying on the ground.

Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue personnel arrived at about 2:30 p.m. and immediately began CPR.

Kenya was taken to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach. Kennedi was transported under police escort to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, both mother and daughter were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospitals.

Husband Mourns Wife and Daughter

Kameron Glasgow has been left devastated by the sudden loss of his wife and daughter.

Speaking about Kenya, he described her as having “the biggest heart in the world.”

He also recalled the painful moment he turned around and saw his wife and daughter after the lightning strike.

“Words can’t describe that feeling,” Glasgow said.

Kenya and Kameron were high school sweethearts and had been married for four years, according to local reports.

Their daughter Kennedi was also a twin. She is survived by her twin sister, Kensli.

The family had been heading to a family dinner when the tragedy occurred. According to Glasgow, the storm was intensifying, and they were simply trying to get the children inside.

But within seconds, the lightning strike changed the family’s life forever.

Police Investigate Lightning Deaths

The Margate Police Department said the incident remains under investigation.

The deaths have also drawn sympathy from residents and members of the local community.

Lightning can cause fatal injuries because its electrical current can disrupt the heart, brain and nervous system. While lightning strikes are relatively rare, authorities continue to advise people to seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms and avoid exposed outdoor areas.
