ABUJA — The Federal Government says more than 10,000 housing units are under construction across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under its Renewed Hope housing programme.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja during the 20th anniversary gala and award night of Abuja Property Development Company (APDC) Limited.
Idris said the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme was expanding access to decent housing through sustained investment, strategic partnerships and innovative financing.
According to him, the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit and improve living conditions for citizens.
“Through the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, the administration has advanced housing projects across the country, with more than 10,000 housing units commenced across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the minister said.
He stressed the importance of collaboration and sustainable financing in making homeownership more accessible to Nigerians.
Idris Urges Developers to Prioritise Housing Needs
The minister, a former chairman of APDC’s board of directors, congratulated the company on reaching its 20th anniversary, commending its management, staff and stakeholders for their contributions to its growth.
He also urged property developers to maintain professional standards, embrace responsible urban planning and ensure that their projects address the housing needs of families and communities.
Idris noted that property development goes beyond constructing buildings, stressing that well-planned developments should provide environments where families can live comfortably, businesses can thrive and communities can prosper.
“Well-planned developments contribute to the growth of cities, create employment and support economic activity,” he said.
He expressed optimism that APDC would build on its two decades of experience and continue to contribute to Abuja’s development through quality housing delivery and responsible property development.
APDC Honours Former Board Chairman
At the ceremony, APDC presented Idris with an award in recognition of his service as the company’s former board chairman.
The award plaque acknowledged his leadership during his two tenures, highlighting his contributions to the company’s development, organisational structure and reputation.
Among those present were the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL), represented by Dr Abiodun Akambi; APDC’s Acting Managing Director, Akeem Aderogba; and a former managing director of the company, Lawal Magaji.
Other attendees included APDC executives, management and staff, alongside other dignitaries.
