The Chairman, Umuahia North Council of traditional rulers Abia state have warned youths of Abia and Nigeria in general against impending dangers of criminality instigated by overzealousness, saying that unemployment is not restricted to the Nigeria nation.
HRM Eze John Ibezim, Chairman, Umuahia North Council of traditional rulers and Eze of Amuzukwu Ibeku Autonomous Community, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, while speaking with Famous Reporters, weekend, attributed the hike in criminalities and all manners of social vices among youths in recent times to greed and quest to make wealth against all odds.
The royal father who argued that unemployment was common in some other nations of the world advised youths on the dignity of labour, as he emphasised the need for an attitude of contentment among them.
Hear him: “Everybody either is or was once a youth. Those of us who were once a youth, we survived till date because of the way we lived our life. If we drive a big car, they want to drive the same car, then they should be very sure that they are heading in for problems”, he noted.
“They should cut their coat according to their cloth, don’t jump gun, move with a normal peace, is unfortunate the problem of unemployment is not just peculiar here in Nigeria, it is so all over the world. I know some areas it is worst than some other palaces, but there must be something to keep somebody going other than criminal activities, that is what i should enjoin the youth to do.”
The traditional ruler who is passionate about securing the destinies and lives of the youths stressed that Nigeria had a better record than most countries in relation to employment opportunities, as he insisted that involvement in criminal acts ought not to be anyone’s last resort, hence, there are innumerable other options to enhance a good living.
“There must be something else to do other than criminal activities. if they can be percent the future is open to them,as it is today is not what it’s going to be tomorrow”
Eze Ibezim urged the teaming unemployed youths to acquire skills and be diligent in same, and pointed out that dependency on ill gotten wealth would loom dangers for the individual, adding “it is only those who comport themselves properly in the present time that will live to enjoy the prosperity of tomorrow”.
“But he who wants to jump gun and grow rich overnight then you are headed for trouble, so for those of them who believe that the only way they can get rich is to rob, kill, kidnap, they might take one successful shot, second successful shot but then ,they should be rest assure that they must be caught and when they are caught whatever they have acquired in the past will go into nothingness”.
