Encomiums, As Remains Of Prof. Ogbuji Enyia Return To Mother Earth (See Photos + Videos)
All roads led to the compound of Late Sir Joseph Enyia, yesterday, Saturday, as late Sir, Prof. Dike Ogbuefi Enyidike, (JP, KJW), was laid to rest, in his compound at Oloko Community, in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
It was an atmosphere of mixed feelings, as both the immediate family and community celebrated the legacies of the patriarch, while also nurturing the pains of loosing a personality they described as an irreplaceable icon ever in existence.
In his homily, the officiating priest, Bishop Okorie, of Methodist church Nigeria, Ndoro Diocese described the former Knight of Methodist Church as a profound man whose humility, intellect, kindness, morality and simplicity are ‘second to none’ both in his immediate community and State in general.
Bishop Okorie, who drew his anchor text from the Book of 1Kings Chapter 2:1-6, described death as a certain factor designed for mankind, and urged the bereaved family to endeavour to emulate the footprints.
The clergy while recounting on the extant hike in insecurity across the regions of the country, enjoined the congregation to reflect on their individual lifestyles, irrespective of their earthly possessions, reiterating that, “death is inevitable for every man especially in this perilous time. So, this is a time for all of us to reflect on our lives because the rate at which people die especially in this period of insecurity calls for sober reflections at all times.
“Prof. has left behind every of his portfolio. He was a renowned Knight in Methodist Church. He had acquired all manners of certificates and yet he’s returning to his Creator with just nothing. Our prayer is for God to grant his gentle soul rest in His kingdom.
He implored the living to always live with the consciousness that death could suddenly come upon anyone, lamenting that, “death is not a respecter of anyone neither does it come on appointment, he warned.
Continuing, he advised that, all to accept Jesus Christ into their lives, and imbibe the good attributes of the deceased, whom he described as a philanthropist, having impacted positively on humanity through his philanthropic work particularly in the education of many.
“Let’s live for others because we shall give account of all what we have done. We should live with the consciousness that Christ will come someday to reward every man according to his deeds on the earth.
Let us emulate the good lifestyle of Prof. Ogbuefi. He was a humble man, sagacious, very kind to everyone who crossed paths with him and he affected many positively especially in areas of education. He was an erudite Scholar and today we’re happy he’s gone and has left legacies we must follow.
Similarly, in their tribute, the Council of Knights of Methodist Church Nigeria, Aba branch, thanked God for the gift of a man like Prof. Enyidike, as they recounted on his magnanimous deeds towards the church and the people.
“He had contributed his own quota to the education of mankind. He was loving, kind, and had contributed immensely to the growth of the Church and the community in general.
Speaking further, the Knights added that, “Prof. came, saw and conquered. Though you spent a brief time with us in the Council of Knights, you’ll forever be remembered. And our prayer is for God to release more of His grace and blessings upon your children so they can multiply and never to diminish.
In addition, a representative of the immediate community had this to say: ”
“Prof. left a total legacy and we pray for God to grant his soul rest and his children the grace to live long just like their father.
Commiserating with the family, Dr. Alex Otti wished the patriarch well as his body was returned to mother earth, urged the bereaved family to pursue unity of purpose and embrace peace, as a mark of respect to the deceased.
“Nine-two years is enough time for a man on earth. The Bible says: ‘Weeping may endure in the night but joy comes in the morning. But, I also want to use the immediate family of Prof. to pursue the unity of purpose and live amicably with one another as a mark of respect for their father.”
He thanked the entire leadership of Methodist church Nigeria for organising the event.
Also, the PDP Senatorial candidate for Abia Central, Col. Austin Akobundu, (Rtd.) We learnt a lot of things from him and we thank God for giving us the opportunity to leave to see today.
He enjoined the family to emulate their father’s life style while upholding his legacies which he noted would outlive his generation.
Also, Representatives of University Teaching Hospital, Calabar, in their remarks, described the erudite Scholar and former Head of the Department of Education, as a man of integrity, who held his head up high inspite of all odds.
“He ensured that all his children attained the highest level of education. We’re not here to cry but to felicitate with his family and to celebrate with them, because Prof. was a man to reckon with.
Highlights of the ceremony was a cultural display by the Theatre Arts Alumni Association of University of Calabar wherein the first daughter of the deceased is the deputy coordinator of, in the United States of America, (USA).
