EFCC Secures 48-Year Jail Term for Builderstech MD Over N500m Investment Scam

“A Federal High Court in Makurdi has sentenced Builderstech Solution Ltd Managing Director, Agene Johnson Godwin, to 48 years imprisonment for defrauding over 5,000 investors of more than N500 million through a fraudulent investment scheme.”

The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced the Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin, to 48 years in prison for orchestrating a massive investment fraud.

Justice M.S. Abubakar delivered the judgement after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to court proceedings, the convict defrauded over 5,000 unsuspecting investors of more than N500 million through fraudulent investment schemes operated under Builderstech Solution Ltd. He was found to have collected funds from members of the public under false pretences, luring victims with promises of unrealistic and unusually high returns on investment.

Justice Abubakar imposed a cumulative sentence of 48 years imprisonment without the option of a fine, emphasising the seriousness of the offences and the widespread impact of the fraud on victims.

Reacting to the judgement, the EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigerians from financial crimes. The anti-graft agency also warned the public to be cautious when investing, particularly in schemes that guarantee suspiciously high returns.
