Edo Man, 40, Accused of Killing Pregnant 18-Year-Old Girlfriend, Severing Her Breasts

An 18-year-old woman, reportedly eight months pregnant, is dead after an alleged attack in Edo State. The 40-year-old man accused of killing her claims voices in his head and instructions he said came through a dream prompted him to act.

EDO STATE — A 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, has allegedly confessed to killing his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Uromi, Edo State, claiming that voices in his head and instructions he said came through a dream prompted him to commit the crime.

The Edo State Police Command said the victim was about eight months pregnant when she was allegedly killed in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, Ekata allegedly mutilated the victim’s body after the killing and attempted to remove her unborn baby.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed the case on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while presenting Ekata and other suspects arrested for various offences.

Daaor said the victim had reportedly lived with the suspect for about a year before the tragic incident.

During an interview with journalists, Ekata admitted killing the teenager and claimed that he had been hearing voices instructing him to do so.

“I began hearing voices instructing me to kill her, but I initially resisted because she was pregnant,” he said.

The suspect claimed that the instructions persisted despite his initial resistance.

According to him, he received the same instruction in a dream about two weeks later and subsequently acted on it.

“The same instruction came to me in a dream about two weeks later, prompting me to commit the crime,” Ekata reportedly said.

He further claimed that the mutilation of the victim’s body was carried out following instructions from what he described as a spiritual force.

“After killing her, I severed her breast as the spirit instructed me to do so,” he said.

Ekata also told journalists that he transported the victim’s body in a Toyota Corolla before dumping it by the roadside. He denied having killed anyone before the incident.

However, his account of hearing voices and receiving instructions in a dream does not independently establish the motive for the alleged killing or indicate whether he has any mental health condition.

Reacting to the incident, Daaor described the killing as horrific and expressed sadness over the death of the pregnant teenager.

The police commissioner credited members of the community with providing information that helped security operatives apprehend the suspect.

He assured residents that the suspect would face the full weight of the law and urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and investigating crimes.

Daaor also called on parents to pay closer attention to their children’s safety, particularly that of girls, warning about the dangers posed by sexual predators and other individuals who may exploit vulnerable people.
