Drop Case Against Sick OYC President, CSO’s Urges Ebonyi Govt, CP Antony

The Igbo National Council INC in conjunction with no fewer than twelve Civil Society Organizations CSO’s in Nigeria have unanimously appealed to the Government of Ebonyi State and the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police to discard the case of felony against the President of Ohanaeze Youth Council OYC – Comrade Igboayaka .O. Igboayaka.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the national President of Igbo National Council (INC), Comrd. Chilos Godsent and made available to Famousreporters.com, today, February 25, 2025.

The Socio-cultural group under the aegis of its President, Comrd. Chilos Godsent, also We urged all Nigerian youths and Activists to come enmass to the Magistrate Court Abakaliki in solidarity with Comrade Igboayaka who, according to the release, was at the forefront of the struggle for the defense of the Rights of Igbo Youths.

The group recalled that on Saturday, 8 February, 2025 after the victory of Comrade Igboayaka for a second term in office as President of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), at the fifth National Election Convention of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) which took place in Owerri, Imo State.

The release read in detail:

“That same day Comrade Igboayaka was forcefully abducted in a Neo Mafia Gestapo style at the venue of his victory Party at Works Layout Owerri by dreaded looking gunmen who after two days was traced to be Operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Ebonyi State Police Command.

Continuing, it states: “After two days in Police detention, following the deteriorating health of Comrade Igboayaka resulting from beating and torture, he was hurriedly taken to clinic for medication when CSO’s raised alarm on the bad condition he was passing through.

“Consequent upon the above, on Wednesday, 12 February, 2025 at about 3:40pm while the Legal Team of Comrade Igboayaka was at the Anti Kidnapping Unit of Ebonyi State Police Command, where the IPO in charge of the matter asked them to wait, while the Legal Team waited at the Police Command, the IPO in company of other Police operative went to the clinic and hurriedly took him straight to the Magistrate Court Abakaliki where he was arraigned on the Charge of Felony and accusations of causing extreme fear to the people of Amegu Nkalagha community in Ishielu Local Government Area etc. Since then, Comrade Igboayaka has been remanded at the Correctional Centre, Abakaliki.

“The Case will come up for a hearing on Wednesday, 26 February, 2025 at the Magistrate Court Abakaliki. In view of the above,

“The Igbo National Council INC with the support of over twelve Civil Society Organizations CSO’s in Nigeria are calling on Government of Ebonyi State and the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police to drop the Case against the President of Ohanaeze Youth Council OYC – Comrade Igboayaka .O. Igboayaka. We are also calling on Nigeria Youths and Activists to come enmass to the Magistrate Court Abakaliki in solidarity with Comrade Igboayaka who was at the forefront of the struggle for the defense of the Rights of Igbo Youths.

“In addition, we are also appealing to the President General (PG) of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo – Senator John Mbata to intervene in this matter so as to promote unity among the various groups in the Igbo Nation.”
