Dismembered Abia Twins: Suspect Chased father to kill him in bush… Cousin
… Debunked mental health saga
By Charity Uwakwe
Mr. Azukaego Ubani, the man who caught Igwebuike Austin Nwaubani, the 25-years-old man dragging the lifeless body of his older sister whom he murdered in cold blood says, the suspect who is currently in detention, at the State Criminal Investigation Department (S-CID), is not a mental health patient as he claims.
Famousreporters.com reports that a young man who claims to be mentally deranged, on Tuesday’s evening, February 18, wee 22 brutally killed his sister and butchered her twin children at Ndagbo, Afara-Ukwu Ibeku, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Reportedly, Igwebuike, who was frequently in a brawl with his older sister, Chinonso had successfully eliminated the latter together with her twin children, aged 7, whom he regrettably dismembered and consigned to a shallow grave in a nearby forest.
Just like wildfire, the recent gruesome killing of the young woman, Miss Chinonso Nwaubani and her twin children, (a boy and a girl) by her younger brother, a self-acclaimed mentally deranged 25-year-old man, Igwebuike Austin Nwaubani, at Ndagbo-Afara, Afara-Ukwu Ibeku,in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, has spread all of the internet.

This outrageous horror which has not only thrown the community and the entire state into a state of wonderment is said to be the first of its kind in the history of Afara, considering the shock waves it sends to the bones and veins of not only the owners of the land but also sojourners in their midst.
Famous Reporters Correspondent who visited the scene of the crime, confirmed that the compound of Mr. James Ubani popularly known as Dee Gentle, a famous hunter and the father and grandfather, of the deceaseds, respectively, was totally deserted in devoid of human presence.
According to our Correspondent, all efforts geared towards speaking with the heartbroken mother of the deceased proved futile as she insistently declined all advances.
The bereaved mother who could be in her early 60’s wailed amidst bitterness, while whispering some silent words, saying: “what else do I say? I’m tired! Please, I can’t say a word. Let me be, I can’t say a word.” She frequently mumbled.
However, luck smiled on our Reporter as she successfully was taken to one Mr. Azukaego Ubani, the cousin brother of Igwebuike Austin Nwaubani and the man who caught the latter dragging the lifeless body of his sister.
Hear him:
“My name is Azukaego Ubani, the children answer Nwaubani whereas we answer Ubani.
This my father is the elder brother of the father of this young man who committed the crime. They were about 8/9 of them in their family but others are late. My father is the direct older brother of the father of this boy, one mother, one father. So, the boy is my cousin.”
Narrating the shocking incident, Ubani told our Reporter that, “it was on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2025, around 8pm I saw that boy carrying something with a white paint bucket, this 20litres paint bucket with a long sack bag in it. As he passed, the thing touched me and I said who is this going. But, somebody said this could be a dustbin that this boy is carrying away so I sat back, because we’re in one compound. So, I stayed back. So, as everybody retired to bed, I also went to bed and you know, most of the time, my people play this MP at a very loud volume, I woke up because of the hot weather and I was outside receiving fresh air. So, as I was outside taking the breeze, I felt pressed and needed to use the toilet. As I was using the toilet, I had heavy footsteps, hitting the floor and I asked myself what was happening. Is my uncle beating up his wife and the woman is not shouting? I asked myself. And there’s no noise, so what kind of noise is this? I wondered.

Mr. Azukaego Ubani

“So, as I went up, close to my window because my compound is only demarcated with a dwarf fence from their own compound. I can look into their window from my own, because part of my house is complete while a part isn’t complete and my toilet is close to their kitchen. So, as I kept hearing the noise, I decided to forfeit using the toilet and go closer. Surprisingly, I saw my cousin, dragging her sister and this is happening around 3:am.
So, I said, what kind of meat did my cousin kill this time? Because most times, he kills a goat and eats it just the same way he killed his sister’s dog and ate it. But, then, that thing was too big and long to be an animal. And from the way he was moving, he must have killed her a long day ago and dumped her body and so she became very heavy. So, I climbed that fence and went to him and I said: “Igwebuike, have you killed your mother?”. And he gave me a ‘shhhhh’ sound meaning that I should keep quiet. I said again, “Igwebuike, have you killed your mother”, and he repeated the sound. Then I was standing by the fence and was really scared because he already was carrying the dead body of his sister that he always fought. So, how can I get close? I even thought it was his mother and then he said; “it’s Nso”, that’s the abbreviation of the name Chinonso, that his sister.
Then I asked: “why did you kill her?” And he said that Nso has been disturbing him; she is the problem he’s having and she was the one who put the snake in his stomach. I was surprised and then I shouted: “Chinekeeee.” So, as I raised alarm, he picked up a race. Immediately, I jumped from the fence and started pursuing him to see if I could catch him. I was pursuing him and shouting at the same time until he ran into a dark area and I cannot follow him to the bush because it was still dark. So, before I got back, the community members had gathered in my compound and were asking what happened so I began to explain and the dead body was there. This was still 3:am. So, the town crier began to beat the gong. Then our Chairman, Mr. Chijioke Otuonye was alerted and he came out from his house and said okay let’s go straight to the police and report it because it’s a case of homicide. So, I followed him immediately and upon getting to the Central Police Station (CPS), the police quickly followed us to the scene of the incident.
So, we all went into the bush in search of him not even knowing he had already killed his sister’s twin children and buried them already.
All of us both the youths and police went into the bush searching for him but did not see him. It was in the evening of that Wednesday that my mum’s phone rang, and I picked it up, because my mother is suffering from stroke, so, I picked up the phone and a woman who spoke from the other end introduced herself as a Pastor. She said she was calling from Isinweke, in Imo State, that there was a boy with her who needed help. That the boy is crying, saying that they chased him out of the house and I asked her the name of the boy, she said Austin James. She asked if I was his brother and I said yes. So, I begged her to call the police to arrest him and I told her what heinous crime she committed. And the woman shouted in fear.
I told the woman indirectly because I asked her to call the police. I told her that he killed his sister and her twin children.
The woman was shocked and so she shouted: “what! so you killed somebody and ran to this place? I asked where she was with the young man and she said if I knew Isinweke, close to 7 and 1/2. So, she said I should come straight to Ihite-Uboma, in Imo State.
So that was how we began to trace him but at a time we, called the woman’s line but couldn’t reach her yet we continued moving. So, on our way going, we saw this young man standing along the road. The place was a bit crowded and there was a hotel along that Ihite-Uboma axis and already, we suspected that as a young man who did not know anywhere, he must be somewhere along the road. So the first machine pastor was on the second machine so I saw him and asked the cyclist to stop but as soon as he saw us, he started running again and his siblings that followed us to search for him together with the crowd there chased him and caught and gave him a massive beating.
So, he was not caught by his maternal home rather there at Ihite-Uboma. Meanwhile, his maternal home is here in Umuahia, precisely at Umueze.
So, having caught him on that Wednesday evening, we took him to CPS and the following day, we were invited and asked to take him to State CID, still in Umuahia. So, we got to State CID and wrote our statement and that was all.
Asked for his view regarding the matter, the bereaved cousin said: “somebody that killed should be killed, because how happy will I be to see him eating, drinking and enjoying? He killed 3 people”.
Speaking amidst tears, he said:
“The blood of her sister and the twins will continue to speak; just like Jehovah said that the blood of Abel spoke to him when he asked Cain about the whereabouts of his brother.
So will the blood of these children speak and it was the blood of these children that made them call us.
And that blood will keep on speaking until Jehovah comes.
Only that we don’t want to take laws into our hands so that the Law will take its course. Let the government take the ambit of the law and get justice for that lady and her children.
He always has problems with his sister and if you doubt, you can ask his mother.
He had chased his father to the bush with a knife to kill him. This happened three or four days before the incident. I wish I could see his father now so you could hear from him. When you went to their house, did you speak with his mother? Can you take me now to his mother let me say these things to her, because I like being just.
Asked whether Igwebuike is suffering from mental retardation as he (Igwebuike) alleged, he said:
“How can somebody that is mentally unstable as he claims be able to kill someone and clean up the mess? He cleaned their blood, burnt their clothes, and then, when God exposed him such that he could not hide, he ran away. .
Continuing, he disclosed that Igwebuike’s parents had overtime, made frantic efforts to seek spiritual solutions to the purported serpentine movements in the former’s eyes and stomach.
However, he regretted that their efforts proved futile, as Igwebuike would always give sharp rebuffs to such approaches.
Hear him: ,his people have tried several times to take him to church for solution but he will always refuse the offer to whatever he was complaining about. He keeps saying that snakes are moving in his eyes and his stomach and that it was his mother, father, brother and sister that put them there.
Speaking further on the alleged movement of snakes in Igwebuike’s eyes and stomach, he said:
“My dear sister, I cannot say what I don’t know; it will be a sin, because every spoken word that comes out of the mouth of anyone is recorded for him. The Bible says that the opening of our mouths should be words of edification.
He says he doesn’t know how snakes entered his eyes yet the snakes haven’t killed him. And you knew how to kill other people, butcher them with your knife and still dig shallow graves and bury them yet you claim to be mad?
Asked where he buried the twins he said:
“It was in the forest here; near the dustbin around Ojukwu Bunker.” He explained.
He, therefore, implored the government of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, the executive Governor of Abia State, to intervene, thus bringing the suspect to book through the legal process.
“Let the government use the ambits of the law to do justice, because the Bible says that whoever that kills shall pay with his own blood. That’s all.
