Delta Police Arrest Father Over Alleged Vaginal, Anal Abuse of 10-Year-Old Daughter

A 10-year-old girl has reportedly endured years of alleged sexual abuse by the man expected to protect her. Her father is now in police custody following a petition by a human rights organisation in Delta State.

Delta State Police have, in collaboration with the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, arrested 42-year-old David Fiabe Omimi over the alleged repeated sexual abuse, including vaginal and anal penetration, of his 10-year-old daughter. The arrest followed a petition by CDHR, which confirmed that the child had been rescued and was receiving medical and psychosocial support.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, David Fiabe Omimi, over the alleged repeated sexual abuse of his 10-year-old biological daughter, including alleged vaginal and anal penetration.

The arrest followed a petition by the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Delta State, to the police authorities in Effurun.

The suspect was reportedly arrested on Friday, November 6, 2026, while the victim was rescued and placed in protective custody.

The Publicity Secretary of CDHR in Delta State, Nosa Oveseey, disclosed the development in a statement sent to journalists in Warri.

According to the organisation, it received a distress report on Wednesday, November 4, from a concerned resident of Isoko Estate Road, near Deeper Life Church, off Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The report alleged that the 42-year-old father had been sexually abusing his daughter since she was seven years old.

CDHR said its findings indicated that the matter had previously been reported to family members by the victim’s mother earlier in the year but was allegedly settled within the community without police intervention.

The suspect reportedly promised to stop the abuse but allegedly resumed the act about seven days before the latest report.

Following the complaint, the human rights organisation said it commenced immediate surveillance and subsequently submitted a formal petition to the Effurun Area Command on November 6.

The petition was received by the Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, who reportedly directed immediate police action, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

CDHR commended the police officer for what it described as a swift and professional response to the petition.

The organisation further disclosed that the suspect remained in police detention and had allegedly made confessional statements to investigators.

Victim Receives Medical, Psychological Support

Providing further details about the victim’s condition, CDHR said the little girl had allegedly suffered repeated sexual abuse, including penetration through her vagina and anus.

The organisation confirmed that she had been rescued and was receiving necessary medical and psychosocial support.

Describing the incident as a grave betrayal of parental responsibility, CDHR condemned the alleged actions of the suspect and insisted that the matter must not be subjected to another community settlement.

The organisation stressed that the case required thorough investigation and prosecution, adding that the protection and recovery of the child must remain a priority.

It also called on the Delta State Police Command to ensure a speedy investigation and transmit the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) without unnecessary delay.

CDHR Calls for Justice, Rehabilitation of Victim

CDHR urged the Delta State Government, Ministry of Women Affairs and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to provide comprehensive assistance to the victim.

The organisation also called for diligent prosecution of the suspect and appropriate punishment if found guilty.

Citing the Child Rights Law of Delta State 2008 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015, CDHR described child sexual abuse as a serious criminal offence that must attract the full weight of the law.

The human rights group also appealed to parents and guardians to take children’s complaints seriously and report suspected cases of sexual abuse to the appropriate authorities.

It urged members of the public to speak up whenever they suspect that a child is being abused, warning that silence and informal settlements could expose vulnerable children to further harm.

The suspect’s arrest does not amount to a conviction, and the allegations remain subject to police investigation and judicial determination.
