A relationship that reportedly began on Facebook ended in tragedy after a 30-year-old man allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend in Enugu. In a video, he narrated his version of the events and what happened after her death.

A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okpara, has allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend, Chinyere, in Enugu State, claiming a fight, drug influence and a dispute over HIV preceded the incident.

ENUGU, Nigeria — A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okpara, has allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend, Chinyere, in Enugu State on September 19, 2026.

Okpara made the confession in a video recording in which he narrated his relationship with the deceased and gave his account of events leading to her death.

According to the suspect, he first met Chinyere on Facebook in 2023 while he was living in Nekede, Imo State. He said he later relocated to Enugu State in December 2025, while Chinyere was undergoing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Port Harcourt.

He explained that they met again after Chinyere returned to Enugu in March 2026, after which their relationship reportedly began.

Okpara claimed that Chinyere, who had recently completed her NYSC programme, visited him at his residence.

He alleged that during the visit, he told her that he could treat people suffering from sexually transmitted infections, including hepatitis, HIV and syphilis.

The suspect claimed that Chinyere became angry and accused him of being responsible for infecting her with HIV.

According to his account, an argument subsequently broke out and escalated into a physical confrontation.

Okpara alleged that Chinyere used a pistol to hit him during the fight. He claimed that he managed to take the weapon from her and struck her on the head with it, causing her to collapse.

He further alleged that he later used a machete to inflict cuts on her wrist, head and neck.

The suspect also claimed that he was under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the incident.

Recounting what happened afterwards, Okpara said he wrapped Chinyere’s body in nylon and remained inside his apartment with the body because he was afraid and did not know what to do.

He claimed that the smell from the apartment eventually alerted neighbours, who broke into the residence three days later and allegedly found him alongside the decomposing body.

Okpara also disclosed that he damaged Chinyere’s mobile phone, allegedly to prevent anyone from contacting her.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain subject to investigation, and the suspect’s claims have not been independently verified.
