China’s Praise for Nigeria: Diplomatic Deception or Dangerous Hypocrisy?- Emeka Kalu Queries

“China’s praise for Nigeria hides a deeper hypocrisy. Despite commendations, Chinese involvement in illegal mining is draining Nigeria’s resources and fueling insecurity. Chief Emeka Kalu calls for decisive national action to defend sovereignty.”

It is both ironic and deeply troubling that China — a nation whose actions have significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic and security crises — would turn around to “commend” the country for its governance and development efforts. This diplomatic praise, though outwardly flattering, conceals a darker and more damaging truth that Nigerians must confront with courage and clarity.

Across Nigeria, particularly in mineral-rich regions, Chinese interests have become deeply entrenched under the guise of “foreign investment.” However, these ventures often bear little resemblance to genuine investment. What we are witnessing instead is systematic exploitation.

China’s alleged involvement in illegal mining activities across states such as Zamfara, Niger, and Nasarawa has become a national security nightmare. These illegal operations are not merely draining Nigeria’s natural wealth—they are reportedly fueling conflict and instability.

According to local sources and security reports, some of these foreign “investors” have been accused of supplying weapons and logistical support to local militias, ensuring that anyone who challenges their control is swiftly silenced. This web of armed groups has intensified insecurity, devastated local economies, and caused immense suffering for law-abiding Nigerians. Yet, the government’s silence remains deafening.

It is disheartening that despite repeated warnings and credible intelligence, the Nigerian government appears hesitant to take decisive action. Our leaders must rise above foreign manipulation and defend the nation’s sovereignty. Allowing external powers to plunder our land and arm our people against the state is not just negligence — it is betrayal.

China’s commendations, therefore, ring hollow. They come from the same hand that extracts our resources, undermines our communities, and destabilizes our security architecture. Nigeria does not need empty flattery; it needs bold leadership and decisive reform.

Now is the time for the government to reclaim control of the mining sector, disarm foreign-backed militias, and restore integrity to our economy. If we continue to ignore these warning signs, our silence will become the weapon that destroys us.

Nigerians deserve transparency, justice, and protection — not from our own government, but from foreign exploitation masquerading as friendship. It’s time to draw the line.
