Call off strike May 26 for hitch free swearing in of new Government, LP begs Abia Organised Labour
As the inauguration of Dr. Alex Otti as the fifth executive governor of Abia State draws nearer, the Labour State Chapter of Party (LP) has formally appealed to the has made a passionate appeal to Nigeria Labour Congress to call off the extant strike on Friday, May 26, 2023, to pave the way for a hitch free inauguration of the governor elect.
According to the party, if the strike is not targeted at the party and its governor elect, there would be no need to continue the strike after May 28, 2023 since it would infringe on the smooth transition from the Okezie Ikpeazu’s government of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Otti’s administration of Labour Party.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday on the activities lined up for the May 29,2023 inauguration of a new governor of Abia State in Umuahia, the state capital, the Coordinator of the Alex Otti Inaugural Committee, Hon Acho Obioma assured that the incoming government will carry the burden of offsetting the loads of salary arrears, pensions and gratuities left by the outgoing PDP government.
He disclosed that the governor elect is renovating the Umuahia Township Stadium and the International Conference Centre (ICC) at the Ogurube Layout at his personal costs so that there won’t be any need by the outgoing government to indulge in over invoicing of the project.
Hon Acho Obioma who was also party’s agent at the Abia State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just concluded governorship election revealed that over two million people across Nigeria and the world including the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu are being invited to the inauguration ceremony.

“We’re inviting him specifically because he doesn’t seem to be keen in performing his constitutional duties concerning the inauguration. He should come to the inauguration venue to do needful”, he opined, adding that bartistes like Davido, Basket Mouth and other Nollywood actors and actresses are billed to grace the occasion.
His word: “Broadly, the theme for the inauguration ceremonies is titled: ‘The Alex Otti Inaugural…Help is Here’. This is a direct follow-up and result to the Alex Otti Campaign Organisation’s battle charge to Ndi Abia, prior to the 2023 Governorship Election, “Weep Not, Help is on the Way”.
“Today, by the mercy of the Almighty God, the help that we need to move forward and realise the potential for the greatness of our State is here, in the person of Dr. Alex Otti, a man divinely endowed with enormous capacity, character, competence, content and above all the fear of God.
“Essentially, the Alex Otti Inauguration Committee has designed two major events for the May 29, 2023 inauguration. One is the formal Swearing-in of the Governor-Elect and the Deputy Governor-Elect, and the second, a Luncheon with the new Governor of Abia State and his deputy for the invited guests. These two events are going to signal a new order in the way we do things as Abians, going forward, and therefore has been designed with excellence in mind.

“As you may have read in one of our public statements, some of Nigeria’s best and globally acknowledged stars in music and comedy have been lined up to perform in the events of the inauguration. Topping the headlines in music is international award-winning singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, while our own son of the soil, Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, will lead the front of comedy artists as Host of the events.
“Other celebrated singers on the bill include Mr. Raw, Ruff Coin and Rugged Man while Nedu Wazobia, Diamond Okechi and Funny Bone make up the comedy cadre.
“Already, the venues for the inauguration events have received a facelift, preparatory for the grand showing. Extensive renovation works have been carried out at the Umuahia Township Stadium, where the State Box gallery have received a new layer of floor tiles, away from its usual pot-holed surface.
“Also, the broken spectator’s plastic seats have given way for a more befitting set of furniture. The weather-beaten walls have equally received a coat of fresh paint while the grasses around the playing pitch and surroundings are being mowed to give effect of carpet.

“As in the Umuahia Township Stadium so is the International Conference Centre (ICC) at Ogurube Layout, Umuahia, where the exteriors of the event centre have been refreshed with brilliant white-coloured paint. Broken flower kerbs littering the massive landscape have been revamped and coated with glossy white and black paints.
“Some have asked us why we are doing all of this, a burden that is supposed to be born by the government of the day. Our response has been simple: we will eventually do them, anyway. The only difference now is that these renovations are being done with private citizen’s money and are being executed at very reasonable cost”.
The Alex Otti inauguration boss maintained that the party is expecting thousands of hopeful and expectant Abians from across the state and outside are going to be trooping the streets of Umuahia to find their way to the stadium to be part of this historic day.
- “So, we anticipate that this would impact on the existing traffic challenge within the State capital. Consequently, our Security Committee, working with the agents of the State, has worked out arrangements to mitigate the effect on citizens”, he added.
