Executives of Okon-Aku Development Union (ODU), in Ohafia LGA of Abia state have implored the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole to further facilitate the construction of their 7km road that will link them to their sister- states, Ebonyi and Odukpani, in Cross River.
This is even as the group acknowledged the receipt of over 1million naira from the Federal Lawmaker, as counterpart fund to enable Abia CSDP
Abia State Community Social Development Programme construct the said Amafia road.
The group, led by the President-General, Dr. Nmecha Umeh Kalu made this hearty request during a courtesy visit to Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole, Sunday, August 9, 2020, at his Onyerubi Close, Umuahia residence, the state’s capital.
In his speech, Dr. Nmecha eulogized the federal lawmaker on his giant strides in the federal constituency and the extant cordial relationship which according to him, has lasted between the latter and the people of Okon-Aku Ohafia community.
Furthermore, he highlighted the need for a boundary demarcation between Okon-Aku community and Cross River State, regretting that “the Eastern Rubber Company is affected in this logjam and has resulted in communal clashes.
According to Mr. Nmecha, refugees from not fewer than four communities are currently taking refuge in Okon-Aku community which, explained had affected their economy “and escalating the rate of hunger and criminal activities and called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assistance and intervention by way of providing relief materials to Okon-Aku community.”
The Okon-Aku President General on behalf of her Executives and the entire community used the medium to condole with the Rt. Hon. Nkole over the demise of his father, late Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe Nkole, as he prayed God to grant his gentle soul eternal rest and the courage for the family to bear the irreparable loss.
Responding, Rt. Hon. Nkole thanked the Executives for commiserating with him on the demise of his father who died after a meritorious service and retired as a Senior Management Staff from the Nations apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Continuing, the federal lawmaker disclosed that he had earlier raised a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives wherein he called for the intervention of the Federal government on the deplorable state of the road, as well as the boundary issue.
He urged them to write a letter on the history of the crisis that has happened in their area with pictorial evidences in order to help him facilitate the intervention of NEMA in the area.
The highlight of the visit was a prayer offered by Pastor Shedrack I. Ekea, the Secretary-General to Hon. Nkole and his family, the State and the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
